…would be death? You could have picked an easier subject! After eons of mankind asking what happens after death, all we have is faith that there is at least something. We began believing in monsters, and ended up believing in Spirits.
Once Gods started to emerge, they became pretty popular. The more Gods you had as a society the better off you were. For example; Isis the Goddess of life was pretty popular around the Nile. She gave life. Then came Abraham and his funky new God. He slaughtered a bunch of people who did not believe in his God. This new God was pretty dang powerful since he slaughtered many communities who had three or four Gods with this single new God! How about that? Pretty impressive!
We now have three modern religions which are direct spin-offs from Abraham’s God. These three modern monotheistic religions think they have it all figured out. The big question is which one do you pick? Most likely the religion you pick has to do with the society you were raised in. If, for example, some gal (or dude) in Afghanistan was raised Muslim, chances are his/her religion is going to be Muslim… This is not 100% of the time, but it is 99.999% true. This is my own estimate, and not scientific. The religion you have is most likely what your parent’s religion is.
So, once you land on the monotheistic religion of your choosing. (Not to be confused with any of the wisdom religions of the Far East.) You are taught that only your religion is the true word of God. All other religions are wrong. You will go to heaven with any number of perks, you just need to pick the religion that you are most comfortable with.
Bottom line, you need to believe in something. Studies have found that it is healthier for you to be grounded in a religion, any religion. Once you do that, you will be comforted to know that you will live forever, have less stress in this life, and a live longer.
