They just started year round school here and the kids are on fall break.
Every little kid in the neighborhood is running around driving me crazy, they were chasing my kittens around the yard and peeping in my windows yesterday. How long is fall break has anyone done the year round school thing? How do you like it?

You’re kidding! they’ve already started the year-round thing in some places?! They’d better wait until i’m out of school before they start it here. Never heard of fall break, but if you do find out i’d be eager to hear.
Aha… that explains the sudden troll increase!
It depends which system they are using as to how long the break will be. The most common year round programmes in use are 45 days schooling, 15 days off or 60-20 or 90-30.

I’ve never heard of that!
Im from the UK and tomorrow we have the october holidays, where we are off for 10 days! Is this year round, fall break thing the same??
Sorry, just curious!
Its an alternative system double.. instead of three terms and long summer hols, basically the hols get spread around the year. So, the usual 180 days allocated to learning are more evenly spread.
It’s been muted as a possibility for UK. I think we’re waiting to see how successful it is in America before we go for it, so don’t panic just yet!

lol!!
Ahh! ok. Thank you for letting me know!
Luckily deer season starts next month so I can use the target practice… No, the kittens can take care of themselves against unwelcome guests I suppose I can do the same. I knew there was a reason someone’s car alarm went off so early today, kids on the loose.
So how is taking care of the kids?
Not the school, and apparently not the parents either… this is just an experiment after all. I’m sure we will figure year round schools out soon enough!
I don’t know how convenient it is for working parents to have year round school, but it has been proven to be very effective for children (and children are the primary concern in schools.) For the majority of my education, i went to a school that was year round. it think it’s great because students do not get dumb over the summer after being out of school for months. they only get about 2-3 weeks off of school in the summer. just enough time to have a nice vacation, but not so much that they start getting bored, idle, and into trouble. they also get weeks of throughout the year so that they have the opportunity to appreciate every season of the year. most schools that have year round school also have more school days, but we enjoyed it. we got to go on more educationalfield trips and weren’t being forced by our teachers to have information crammed into our heads in a limited amount of time.
I live in Arizona, and I know of two school districts around this area that do year round schooling. I think that it is a great idea, I only wish that my son’s school would do it…L
Year round school? That sounds horrible!
LOL Dr.Ralph!!!!! All you need is to have a giggly girl sleep over, that would really put you over the edge :0)
Trust me I raised two girls who are now 22 and 19 and we had our share of giggly girl sleepovers. I still haven’t figured out why they call them sleepovers when no one ever seems to sleep. It was a lot easier to take ten years ago… now I’ve become a grouchy old man who needs 9 hours of sleep a night.
LOL….Sounds like you had quite a time of it….:)
I think year round schools would be good in one way: over the summer, kids can lose up to 30% of what they learned during the school year over the summer.
However, it’s so much a part of the tradition to have SUMMER break!! I would hate to buck tradition :) I like summer break, personally…
Well, i’m on a half-term break now. It’s 6 weeks at school, then a week off. Then another 6 weeks, then it’s 2 weeks off (and christmas.)
When I was in HS and we had year round they gave us 2 weeks off
