We had a terrible situation come up here in help.com just yesterday. These people are so clever, so well organised and so convincing sometimes! They work on building trust and clouding issues so that even cautious and very sensible people sometimes get caught.

I was nearly scammed a few years ago. I met a girl online and we started a friendship via email. Things were going great for a few months, she sent me some pictures of herself so i knew what she looked like etc - well one day i just had this odd feeling inside me that things were not quiet right, so i spent hours and hours searching the net for pictures that might be her - i didn’t have a reason to do the search, but i am glad i did - eventually i tracked the same girl down but using many different names and found she was a confidence trickster / scam artist. it was pretty scary to know she was trying to scam me, and if i didn’t get that gut feeling, i might have ended up being actually conned out of money perhaps, money i never had. These days i now research anyone and everyone i meet - i usually give up after a week if i find nothing at all. lol
