First off, I am very sorry to hear that your daughter is going through this. And sorry you have to handle the stress of a sick child.
I do not know your situation first hand, but it sounds like the tube in her tummy would be far less annoying and frustrating for her. Hospitals all have social workers who help families in crisis - you should seek support from someone at your daughter’s hospital. They will have all the information and help you make sense of it.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear your daughter has been ill. I know you want to protect her… keep her comfortable and out of pain…. Let the doctors put the tube directly into her stomach… honestly it is so much better than what she has at the moment

Hello. It sounds like you are having a stressful time.

Don’t worry. The doctors only have your daughter’s best interest at heart and I’m sure that this procedure will be in her best interests. Sometimes, as adults, we have a terrible fear of surgical procedures. Why? Because we worry about things we have read, things people have said to us, things that we imagine might go wrong.

The fact is that children don’t think in the same way. That’s why, remarkably, children seem to have an ability to pull through things most adults would be terrified of.

It sounds like this option would enhance your daughter’s quality of life immensely. Eating is a huge pleasure for us and it sounds like this will give her back this pleasure.

Once the tube is in place, it will be less obtrusive and she can feel more “normal” too. She can hide it with her clothes. Her confidence will soar if she can look and behave more like other children do.

Do not worry. Ask your paediatrician what he would do if it were his child. I think you’ll find he won’t hesitate to tell you that he would want this because the benefits hugely outweigh the disadvantages :)
