I am A Jr.

in Highschool. I’ve always done well in school, However ive notice that I don’t understand obvious things at times. I excel at math and science. My problem is i test extremely slowly. on my SATS practice test i finish last, or not even done when time is up. When doing a short pop quiz, i also finish last. Even thought i excel at math and science, i also finish last, however my grades are fine. Today however i was doing my Chem test which was fairly straight forward, however i wasnt able to finish and i was quite furious. I asked my teacher if i could have extra time, but he said i was not qualified (as in not in special ED).When i asked how i could become qualified for extra time, he said i needed to be examened by a doctor. Am i some what mentally handicaped? or do i just test slow as hell? is it worth my time to get checked? (my SAT class taught me all the tricks to testing and how to save time)

You say you are good in math and science, but what about reading comprehension. Perhaps you are a slow reader, or have slow reading comprehension, when it comes to the questions being asked. That might be an area you need to seek help with through skills practicing.

It can’t hurt to get tested. However, I have the same difficulty, took the tests to determine the cause of my slowness at completing assignments and exams, and no abnormality was detected. I think I am possibly more motivated to do well than other students. Therefore, I make an extreme effort to answer every question to the best of my ability. That takes time. Also, I am left handed, which means I have to go through some rather clumsy motions in order to write on test papers.
It always bothered me to be the last one to turn in a test. One teacher made me feel better about it, though. She told me that half the other students had not bothered to answer every question. They gave up, which is simply not my style. I’ll bet you are expecting a lot of yourself.

The other thing I would add that Anonymous brings up is the art of test taking.

If you do not know a question or think you can figure it out in short order, skip it and move on. Answer all the easy questions first, spend time then on the harder ones, and then finally go back and do the toughest ones. You do not necessarily have to do them in the order they are written.

I say this because of of a 20 question test, for example, chances are 5-6 are going to be easy, 8-10 will require some thought and analysis, and the remaining 5 or so will be rather hard. Yet, if all 20 questions are equally weighted at 5 points (20 x 5 = 100), then by skipping the hard ones until last, you increase your chances of either finishing, or at least completing the most number of questions possible in a given time frame.

To, Hughes.gra.

I always do this. like i am not able to answer one question so i always skip to the next one but it doesnot even seem to help me because i always run out of time so i am never able to go back and do the questions i have skipped.
Moreover, i just took summer school like 2 months ago and on the first unit test my teacher soemhow gave me extra time so i was able to check my test over again and guess what i scored like 90 percent on that test but the one after that, my teacher did not gave me extra time beacuse i am coated for extra time and I failed that test :(.

Now few days ago i had a math unit test i studied for it and after the test i was preety confident that i did all my question right but i was not able to re-check it. Yesterday I got it back and but my mark was really bad i failed it.
