What’s Irish for bring me a beer?
I remember watching an interview staring Dara Ó Briain, where he was talking about how he could speak both English and Irish. Ever since then, I’ve been intrigued and always considered trying to learn the basics of Irish.
Thank you for this. It is a really good idea.

Beautiful language! Very musical. Or to me it sounds like that.
How do you say, “Where’s the bathroom in this pub?”

They need translators in London for the folk that cannie understand Glaswegians, get paid £140 a day (someone can do the exchange rate cos a cannie be bothered). I would gladly go and do it, its easy, had a look at some examples of words and phrases that Glaswegians use and its practically what i use everyday. (Let me know if anyone is interested in reading the article)
Its more of Scots slang that is floatin’ about nowadays, but you can still learn Scots Gaelic, go up North and you’ll get it and i have head of a few places down my way that teach people.

That is Scots slang, translates into ‘Long may your Chimney smoke!’
…and grá is love - so it would be I’m IN love with you rather that I love you…but I’m only in 5th yr nd my irish is average :-(
my friends are going to be happy. after forcing it on me for 2 months i may actually learn some.
Dia dhuit Thats one of the only things i learned sitting in the back of Irish class. Everyone has been learning it forever in my class so i don’t have to cause i’m not irish. I think irish sounds so cool tho, nothing like i’ve ever heard before.

Hehe!! basically i said “that’s great, how’s school” but i said it in a round about way…
Irish is pretty hard to grasp at times!
That’s cool!!! how’re you finding school?!?!
o lol, my friend isn’t the best at irish, but i can’t speak it at all so asking her is better than nothing :) I actually love school here, its wayy better than in the states. They don’t have the horrible cliques we do i.e the cheerleaders, preps and jocks ect. everyone is so nice to each other, with a few exceptions, but when will you ever be happy with every single kid in your school? O yea and i love the fact that your class periods are shorter and i get to wake up at 7:30 instead of 5:30 :) how did you like school?
I loved secondary school.. I’m in college in Dublin now though.. That’s great too!!
Have you been told about the leaving cert etc etc etc?

If everyone liked each other…?
Family in Rome!?!
CONFUSION!!
Stephanie7″when is every body happy with every one”My response “if everybody liked each other”- referring to the school thing(cliques)it would be weird cause i’m used to it.” ok that prob. confused you more.
The family in rome.- we went to Rome and there was this PERFECT 50’s family. no fighting and dressed like it too it was soo weird for some reason.
OK this might have confuzzled you more but i tried my best:\ hope it’s not too confusing.

yes its only every other word they say :) and none of it applies to me so i’m just like whatever then i flick pieces of paper at people, while they lecture us on their leaving cert. and the family in Rome thing, don’t worry your mind isn’t fickle. jess (musicsoccer) is my sister and it was because there was this really “perfect” looking family in rome that was like matching father and sons polo shirts and you picture the son saying “father, my day today was so chipper. today at school the teacher gave me 3 gold stars and a smile. after all smiles are what the world go round” they just seemed like they would all constantly get along with each other. ALL THE TIME i’m more of a sibling rivalry person :)
