What he said definitely was not nice. Perhaps you could try to remove the negative emotional part of his message and consider what he is really saying.
Perhaps he’s trying to say that he needs change -like more attention from you… or something else.
Anyways what really works sometimes when someone hurts you is to focus on the positive aspects of the person.

sounds like there is something else bothering him, and hes taking it out on you. try your best to solve this between yourselves and dont throw away 9 years of hard work and dedication so quickly.
