Are you thinking about taking this drug for recreational purposes or as part of a programme to increase althethic ability ?

What do you mean by recreational?

I want to take them as an aid to dieting - mainly to help my portion control. I want to be able to eat 3 normal meals a day, instead of overeating all the time.

Are you being prescribed it by a doctor?

Not sure, I am going to go to the doctors however I never find they are very helpful and no matter how many questions I ask they usually don’t give you the full picture.

I’ve looked it up and its made out to be quite dangerous on some websites, but not on others. I know there will be side effects, but surely it can’t be dangerous if its given on prescription?

The risks are lowered if you get it prescribed by a doctor… because the doctor can go through all of your medical history and see if any contraindictors exsist…. the dangers occur when you start popping pills that you don’t realise can interact with medical conditions/medicines you already take.

I read up all about that. I’m going to the doctors to ask for it, but If not I might just get it off a friend. I’m really sick of the way I am with food. I’m not even fat, I’m at the top end of “ideal weight for my height and age” but I hate being like it. I hate that I can never say no, and all the time I just fancy eating.

If I feel like more than one thing for dinner, I’ll have to have both. Even though I talk myself into having it the next day. I physically feel like I can’t wait.

I don’t know whats wrong with me, but these tablets are meant to be an appetite suppressant that really works. Plus they are meant to make you feel like you’ve drank a load of coffee. I’m kinda looking forward to that feeling because I feel so ill and sluggish all the time because of the crap I eat.

Duramine would probably be better and its a real slow release so it lasts longer

Are there less risks with Duramine?

Well to my knowledge duromine is one of the safer dietry pills on the market and where im from theyre one of the easier ones to get scripted for. They (the docs) pass them out like tik taks at a bad breath convention. But my mum was on them for ages and she swore by them. As far as i know she never experienced any side efects and had no trouble comming off them. I was taking them for a wile just for the (not scripted though) just for the little speedy kick. Thats not to bad either:) lol

Ephedrine is an extremely addictive medication, and should most definitely not be used to lose weight. plenty of people have died from accidental overdoses, heart problems caused by the pill, and kidney and liver failure.
the best way to lose weight, is to simply train yourself to eat less. your stomach will fairly quickly adapt to the amount you are eating and stop you from overeating.
a pill is not the solution to overeating, self control and will power is.

I agree with all that. I used to work at a place that sold ephedrine, and people often asked me if it was legal for me to sell it. I carefully explained as best I could that it was a controlled substance, and one of the big ways in which it was controlled was that it could no longer be marketed (in the U.S.) as a weight-loss aid, as that had been so implicated in ephedrine-related deaths and problems. Ephedra is an interesting plant with a long history in relation to humankind but the profound effect on the heart and metabolism causes almost immediate dependency as the body suddenly expects more open access to instant oxygen (it’s a bronchodilator). So then if there are negative side-effects, the choice to continue using it might seem more intuitively worthwhile than choosing to basically shut down the new normal metabolic energy and starve the brain and body of oxygen. But the side-effects can be very extreme.

sorry to babble. I’m just trying to explain some of why I agree with ms. courtybubble’s accuracy about this.

No I’m seriously really grateful for your reply. I’ve been on a lot of tablets all my life. Suffice to say I think someone presented them to me as a magical cure. I’m naff at motivation and I really overeat when I don’t need to but I never seem to stop myself. I’m forever “starting a diet”.

I decided to give them a try though. I took one a day and for the first week I just wasn’t hungry at all - it was great! But that was it. A week later I found someone telling me its because I needed 2. But then I thought… well in another week will I need 3? So I just stopped there. I mean if they only work for a week then they really can’t be that good for you :(

On the plus side I haven’t put any weight on for over a month now. Just haven’t lost any either :(

I’ve been told Ephedrine can have implications on the pill, its best to not take them.

If your after weight loss tabs try a well known site like “Healthspan” or “Holland and Barratt” as they will state if they interfere with other meds.

theres the problem girl, diets dont work, at all.
its a lifestyle change, an entire attitude overhaul, rather than just a temporary diet to shed some pounds.
i srsly think life would be so much easier if we were all just issued a box of pills that fulfilled our daily nutrient needs and thats it done for the day :P
