Is poetry considered art?

Cuz I have a portfolio due for my english class tomorrow, and It says that I need to put some of my art in it. I will out some visual artwork in it, but what about poetry? I love to write poetry, so do you think poetry is classified as art??? Please respond asap, I need to get this portfolio done!!! Thx!! :D

i consider it art.To me art is any way you express yourself.Painting,drawing,sculpting,writing,dancing,music,its all art.

Absolutely. Poetry and prose are two of the arts. However (and here is the rub) you want to make sure what your teacher implied when they asked for artwork. She/he may have in their mind only visual art. I think however, they would be delighted to have poetry included.
