do not disappoint me!!!i know a lot of people who are there now of my own country….
GCSEs = general certificate of secondary education
BA = Bachelor of Arts (ex. BA in english, history, philosophy, social science and humanities)
MA = Master of Arts (a secondary degree that you can achieve after a bachelor’s degree
BSc = Bachelor of Science (ex. BSc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering ,etc
MSc = Master of Science (secondary degree after a BA
Also, after a master’s degree you can acheive a PhD which is otherwise known as a doctorate (so anyone with a PhD is called a doctor, even though it may be in history, not medicine). PhD is the abbreviate form of “doctor of philosophy”
GSCE= general certificate of secondary education. I.E. high school diploma.
BA= Bachelor of arts.
MA= masters. this is postgraduate, I.E you need to be able to graduate with a degree already, to do this.
BSc= bachelor of science.
MSc = masters of science. same as for MA.
In the United States, a typical bachelors degree is 4 years of fulltime study. some are more, e.g engineering is 5 years. a Masters would be additional years on top of that.
if Harvard University is your aim, then that is a fine dream. However, they generally only accept between 7-8% of people who apply, and fees as an international student are incredibly high, with very few scholarships.
you will be looking at paying easily 3 times what any national student would pay, and as Harvard is a private university, it is already far more expensive than other universities.
its not crushing them lol, its being realistic. notice i said “its a fine dream” whereas the person before me was pretty much just like no. no you cant.
I also happen to think that going to harvard isnt the be all and end all of educational opportunities.
what degree are you hoping to study there?

infact the sooner the better…i know entering there is not easy at all…i hope i can make it 15-20 years later…currently i’m learning medicine & after 7 years i’ll be a Dr…i want 2 manage 2 continue my educations in a normal university in heart field (sorry i don’t know the word 4 that level of educations…) after that i’ll do my best 2 enter harvard but u know since i won’t stop learning as far as i’m alive!!!one day i will enter there…i mean if i couldn’t in one stage i would go 2 a more normal university & will try 2 enter Harvard 4 another period of my educations… :)
O_o…so..youre in med school right now, and when youre qualified as a doctor, youre going to go BACK to school, just so you can say youve been to Harvard?
That’s sorta…
Does this person remind anyone else of a blond joke?

didn’t get what u said…so sorry!!!!!!
u know i don’t want 2 stop learning so i will go my way & i will try 2 enter harvard as soon as possible…. :)
thats one expensive blond joke, the cost of attending harvard for ONE YEAR is US $52,000, and thats for national students.
harvardgirl, you also need to speak english very proficiently to even bother applying to harvard.
do you know much about the application and acceptance process?

lol, that was me trying to understand what you were saying.
so far i have:
youre currently in medical school, studying to be a doctor.
its going to take another 7 years to get that, and then, when youre already a doctor, youre going to go BACK to school, just so you can say youve been to Harvard?
OH WAIT I GET IT!
She wants to blow her life savings so she can further her education.
but…but…isnt that what higher education is all about?!

nope i don’t but i will…i have about 15 years time 2 improve my language,etc
what’s more $52,000 is not very…IF UR EDUCATIONS TAKE 2 YEARS….it’ll be 1bout us $100,000…and i assume it’s affordable…
SirTannen wrote:

no i won’t do anything..my parents will pay… :)
Oh I’m sure they would just LOVE that hahahahaha.
Harvardgirl, that is 52,000 for national students. you are international. remember i said its about 3x the price?
maybe it makes more sense in your own currency, as i dont think youhave any clue how much 100,000 is lol.
USD$52,000 = 513,916,000.00 Iran Rials.
make more sense now?
i also doubt, that in 15-20 years time, your parents will want to spring that much money for you to go back to school, when YOURE ALREADY QUALIFIED!!!
Unless her entire family are all billionaires bubble.
true….in which case….i sense a kidnapping/extortion plan coming on…
Wow, HARVARDgirl!! :), you really have a beautiful dream,
I love people who pursue their dreams against all odds and some of the rude comments on this post is just something you will have to deal with from time to time, lol, but your determination is really admirable.
Its easier to get into Harvard at graduate level or by building relationships in the University by participating in graduate credit programs, which gives you an extra chance at scoring a place since they already are familiar with you,
as I remember there is some kind of medical school cooperation between Dubai and Harvard Med school as part of the Health Care Free zone in Dubai, so you can also try some of the Harvard Foreign Partnership programs in cooperation with foreign universities, which increases your chances, there is a good chance for loans, grants and scholarships for promising students too,
you can easily take time off, to gain work experience, which is a plus with every university, since its an international university, they are always looking for students who are “in touch” with the world, so in your case that would be volunteering with organizations like “Doctors without borders” and any well known international organizations focused on topics concerning medicine, underdeveloped countries are always in need of professionals with basic qualifications in medicine and developed countries are always looking for assistant researchers.
You need to fight the competition by compiling a professional CV, which proves you are passionate about your subject, determined to learn and dedicated to serve humanity,
its hard work, don’t lose heart, good luck!
So far only one person has told her not to pursue her dream.
No one has said its stupid, it just doesnt make much sense is all, financially, nor professionally.
Seriously, and she expects her parents to pay for it to boot.
One day,
people were dreaming of flying and today we a whole aviation industry.
dreaming is just the first step.
yes, but those people didnt spend years getting qualified as aviationists, then then hundreds of thousands of dollars to go BACK to school and learn the same thing all over again.
There is nothing to discourage her, she did mention that she would be pursuing her studies at other universities and keep trying to get into her favorite university, is that not what most med students do?
She is studying a profession that is practically recession proof and studying is investing in her future, every time she gets a certificate or diploma, its practically a raise, which means she will get a better income in future, in other words she is an Entrepreneur, it hard work, in future, she can open her own clinic or join an establish institution in the future.
And if she heads towards the commercial side, she would also do well with pharmaceutical companies, so the business prospects are good and she is going on a healthy path with a supporting family;
Entrepreneurs are known to raise capital from their family and friends first, its natural that her parents are paying, if she gets admitted to Harvard, she will also be eligible for financial assistance from the university and after graduation, she will get a good chance at getting a job to repay the money in no time, so see it as an investment,
not to mention the parents will be happy to invest in their child’s future, just like paying all the other bills that they would normally do ;O)
With a good income, she would be able to support her parents who have invested in her, so i guess that is only natural.
it makes no sense whatsoever to get qualified, then 15-20 years down the track, go back to university to pay to be taught what you already know.
not in the medical field. which i am in myself.
this is not investing in her future, this is finishing completely with study, then going BACKWARDS.
i highly doubt she would be elligible for financial assistance, after having practised medicine for years, and if her family can afford the tuition, she will most definitely not be ellegible.
Only the super rich genius’s get into Harvard, Obama was one of them apparently. Mr. Win a Nobel Peace Prize without doing anything.
if we look at inventors of flying machines, they did have to return to the drawing board, again and again for years,
failure was just inevitable, and success was just so far fetched,
they had to go against higher odds, because people thought they were mad, they had to deal with negative social issues and not to mention trying to get funding for their “mad” ideas, life was not easy for a scientist,
they spent years trying to learn the rights formula on their own or through the experiences of their mentors or colleagues,
they lost a lot of money due to failed attempts and there was no guarantee that they would be able to return any loan that they have borrowed.
Well, I guess if she thinks $100,000+ USD is not much she probably comes from an extremely wealthy and well to do family; Especially, if they will pay for it. Well I’m done here, the sun’s coming up and I have Swine Flu and should get my rest. G’night Jigoku n’ Courty.
As I understand the concept of being a graduate student is to learn something new, and to do more courses, why would anyone go back to school and why would any university accept anyone to repeat the same course?
I have met many students who transferred to pursue their current subject or to do their masters for example, going forward not backwards.
Financial assistance is available, including loans and grants to students, and the University does inform admitted students of these facilities,
Surely, she has nothing to lose, pursuing her studies and trying to reach her dream, I don’t see anything negative except the idea of repeating a year in Harvard for the sake of the name, that’s odd.

no they’ll pay 4 sure since this is their dream as well…my own dad has told we will do as far as we are able… :)
u know the whole trouble i have is this…or i’d better say are these:
1.i’m a girl & due 2 moralities of we muslims i canb’t immigrate a lone…s.o must accompany me;my father or my husband…and the problem starts when my dad can’t accompany me & it’s not known whether he ( i mean that unknown husband!! ;) ) wants 2 immigrate or not & he can afford it or not….
2.it’s really hard 2 immigrate i mean due 2 political problems embassies don’t give us visa easily… :(

btw i know about CV & there’s this bitter memory whenever i think about i sorrow…as a high school student i attended biology olympiad but some idiot cheated….me and many others didn’t pass the exams due their fraud…it would be a great 4 my CV… :((
when ever i think about those who passed that exam by fraud i really want 2 cry…cry 2 death…. :((

Do you plan on doing that degree immediately after finishing the first, or work for some time to fund the Harvard studies?
You should consider that after the age of 20, studying gets harder and harder, seems exponentially. If you’re going to study in Harvard, it’s best you do that before your brain cells start to wither. That’s why I said you should try get a scholarship.

28 hours per day? Wait, what? She’s definitely going to Harvard if she can conjure up four extra hours for each day.
But then again, I may have misunderstood her.
gcse =general certificate of secondary education
ba= bachelors
ma=masters
bscs=biological sciences cirriculum studies

Heck HGirl, if you can hack it, I say more power to you! :)
The only thing that gives me a slight twinge is the amount of money your parents will be sacrificing on your behalf. Do you intend to pay them back once you have finished your education and have begun in medical practice?
But, really, none of my business. If they’ve got a crap-ton’o'cash laying about and they want to spend it on you, that’s their business.
In any event, best wishes. I hope the best for you. I should think that if you aim this high, you’re pretty much guaranteeing success, even if you end up missing your mark you should still end up somewhere to be proud of! :)

i assume this can help u 2 have a better view of me,this is about the middle school & high school which i attended:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nodet
and this is about my university according 2 wikipedia:
The University is currently ranked as one of the best in the Middle East. In the year 2001, its department of Medicine was ranked first among the Iranian universities.[citation needed] The latest rankings put it in 3rd place nationally.[1]
The university has 8 faculties, operates 32 hospitals plus 179 rural and 147 urban health care centers. Its faculty include 600 teaching staff, 1700 physicians, 140 dentists, 130 pharmacists, and 25,402 staff employees.
In 2001, 7,000 students were enrolled full time at the university.
now u can judge better i assume…
In the US and portions of Europe grades are ranked on what is called a Grade Point Average (GPA). Thus if you earn 90%-100% of a perfect score, you get 4 grade points. If you get 80%-89.99% you get 3 grade points. If you get 70%-79.99% of a perfect score in the class you get 2 grade points. 60%-69.99% for 1 point and 0%-59.99% will get you 0 grade points. If you figure how many grade points you have received on average, across all your classes you have a GPA or your relative grade ranking. So a 4.0 in High School indicates a perfect grade rank (anywhere between 90% and 100%). In some schools, not all, it is possible to achieve a GPA above 4.0, signifying honors credits or advanced credits.
In the US, letter grades are associated with the number of grade points received for a class. Thus if you are in the 90% and up category, you get an ‘A’, 80%-89.99% ‘B’, so on for ‘C’, ‘D’, and ‘F’. There is no ‘E’ category for whatever reason. A is associated with exceptional performance, B with better than average, C with average, D with below average, F with failing/unacceptable performance.
This is the correct response !!!!
GSCE= general certificate of secondary education. I.E. high school diploma.
BA= Bachelor of arts.
MA= masters. this is postgraduate, I.E you need to be able to graduate with a degree already, to do this.
BSc= bachelor of science.

pay them back!??well of course i will if they want why not?!
i can’t get what is odd here?!2 me and my parents the pleasure of reaching my dreams is the best pay back….if i had a child i’d do what ever i could 4 him/her 2 reach his/her goals & only his/her attempts are enough 4 me 2 be pleased….
the problem everyone has harvardgirl, is that we are currently in a global recession. hundreds of people every day are losing their jobs, hundreds of thousands more are struggling to pay bills, feed their children, and save their homes.
there are tens of posts on this site alone every single day begging for money for food, christmas, to save the home…you name it.
and you are here, being extremely flippant and dismissive of an absolutely massive amount of money that could probably keep an entire community afloat for 25 years.
that is the problem. the utter selfishness, and greed of the situation.
First: I would like to go to Harvard, too. But I can’t afford it. Do you think your parents will adopt me?
Second: where are children going to fit into this plan of a lifetime of intense study?? I am getting my MAT at a fine university; and I have three kids. Talk about TOUGH! And if you wait till after you are all finsihed with that education….you might be too old
Finally: you really need to be a genius to get into Harvard…in all subjects; not just the sciences. I would suggest that you brush up quite a bit on your English/writing skills.
After having said all that, good luck :)

actually 70% of students at Harvard receive financial aid, due to the cost of tuition being so high.

nope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!the problem is s.th else…our society r completely different here that amount of money which is needed 4 one year of Harvard IS NOTHING!!!u get?!nothing,u can’t buy a simple apartment by this money as a result please accept me that i think this money is not very precious….since here it’s not but i can’t deny the fact that THERE it can help many many people…what’s more as i said several times WE R NOT RICH AT ALL!!!!my parents have worked hard,they saved money and bought some apartments…and suddenly the price of house increased…and they want 2 sell one of those,u see?!?we are not billionaires….what’s more my parents always help charities,so please do not behave me as if i’m a selfish billionaire who keeps thinking about herself and doesn’t care about others…want 2 pay a lot of money 2 reach her dream…since it’s not fair….
u urself…do u sell ur house 4 ur child!?2 help him/her receive what he/she wants?!?its not my faut that my parents do…
and as i said before they just want me 2 continue my educations in an accepted university…they can’t dream about Harvard…i myself must enter there with scholarship of course since my educations won’t last 2 years…and i said 2 years of harvard 4 A US PERSON is accepted….
that amount of money which is needed 4 one year of Harvard IS NOTHING!!!
$300,000 is nothing?
WE R NOT RICH AT ALL
if $300,000 is nothing to you, then yes. you are rich.
i dont understand why you keep pushing this 2 years at harvard.
what degree are you going to get in 2 years?

u answer me,how much does a normal apartment cost n us!?in a middle class zone of the city!?!?
i have no idea, im not american.
you do not understand. to anyone, ANYONE other than your society it seems, $300,000 US, is an exhorbitant amount of money. absolutely ludicrous amount. that would set most people up for life. probably solve the problems of hundreds of families.
to see you speak about it like it is nothing, whether that be your culture or not- its just plain selfish, it really is.
