I don’t need the answer just how to get the answer. - Help.com

I don’t need the answer just how to get the answer.

Math is definitely not my favorite.

How do you write an equation in slope-intercept form of the line through points S(-7,4) and T(4,7)?

If you could help me out that would be great.

You can find the gradient of the slope which is the difference in y for a corresponding difference in x. dy/dx. And then you can solve the linear equation y=mx+c for c which is the intercept by using either coordinate S or T.

holy crap I hope I remember this!

y = m x + b
is the basic slope-intercept form.

y = y-coordinate
x = x-coordinate
m = slope
b = y-intercept.

Soo…
4 = -7m + b
and
7 = 4m + b

Solve for the values of m and b. I only remember the substitution method, so transform the first equation into

4 + 7m = b
note sign change when you move the 7m to other side. Then plug it into the next equation
7 = 4m + 4 +7m
7-4 = 7m - 4m
m = 3

There’s your slope. Now your equation is
y = 3x + b

Now plug in either coordinate pair you’re given for the values of X and Y here, and your’re golden.

could you possibly dumb that down a bit.

What, like the blatant answer?

Whoa.
Over complizication.
(x,y)

Slope = rise/run

Rise (You work with y-coordinates) : (y2-y1) (Second y-coordinate) minus the first
Run (You work with x-coordinates) : (x2-x1)

And voila.
Slope.

And then do what nn told you.

Ie if the slope is 4 and you have the points (1,1,) ans (2,2).
Substitute in y=mx+b

1=4(1)+b
b=-3
Final form is y= 4x - 3
Do the same for the next set of points.

Es compute?
(I think I’m quite possibly right)

Hey, I forgot all about rise/run. Thanks Keckers.
