school help: I need some college-picking advice. - Help.com

I need some college-picking advice.

I’m a senior at a relatively large (about 1800 total) public high school. I’m having a lot of trouble being able to find colleges that are appropriate for me. I’ve gone to the preliminary sites (stuff like careercruising.com) and they haven’t really given me useful information, just very, very large lists.
I don’t know at all what I want to major in, or what sort of career I would like. Without sounding too snobbish, I’m pretty multitalented - I do band, choir, drama, all sorts of stuff. I don’t really feel stressed about my grades, as I’m currently one of my class’s two valedictorians, and we both have GPA’s of 5.3 on a 5 scale. I’m in four AP classes this semester. So my options are pretty open for me as far as what sort of colleges I could look at. I apologize if I’ve come across as full of myself. I’ve found that having more options has actually made this more difficult.
I have been able to narrow down - at least a bit - the sort of college I would like. I want to be able to study a very broad range of things. I like science, math, german, and music. If I had to pick one to prioritize over the others, I’d say music is most important to me. But the others I still very much would like to study. I’ve been told by others that I should look at liberal arts colleges, as they are more broad in their education spectrums. That made sense to me. I also don’t really want a college that is very large - University of Illinois was far too big for me.
I understand if I come across as whiny. I’m starting to run out of time, and I’m finding myself far behind my friends in this college process. I don’t really know who to talk to - my parents really just yell at me, and my counselor just gives me general advice. I would really appreciate any sort of ideas anyone could give me. Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any sort of advice.

If you like science and math… what about Cal Berkeley in Northern California?

If you dont know what your major is going to be in, then id suggest looking for probably the best “quality” school you can to do your required classes before you declare. One with a very good reputation, that will stand you in good stead to either transfer when you decide, or stay there and be at a great school.

I agree with what courtybubble said, you got the grades, and hopefully, you have great SAT scores also. Regardless, apply to the best schools that have a good liberal arts education and if you’re undecided as far as major, then do general studies for the 1st or 2 years to get all your basics. This gives you plenty of time to decide what you really want to major in, while letting you explore the different classes available.

Also think about the location, campus life, etc. because this will definitely play a role in your college years. You have to feel comfortable wherever you are!

A private liberal arts college is the best I think. You can get scholarships and financial aid also to help pay the tuition.
