How do i get a thicker full fringe?

i really want a thick straight fringe but i just don’t have enough hair at the front.. do i try and take some more from the top of my head then brush it to my forehead and cut it to fringe length? wont that fall back down the sides? or should i just forever use product to make it stay at the front?
