parenting help: What can you do with your 2 year old for fun in the evenings? - Help.com

What can you do with your 2 year old for fun in the evenings?

The weather is getting colder and soon it will be winter and I’m wondering what to do every evening with my 2 year old son - we do drawings, we listen to music, play with his cars and blocks. I don’t have a clue what to do every night for the next 5 months when its cold outside (we live in Switzerland). Last winter he was a baby so it wasn’t a problem. Any suggestions would be really appreciated! :)

Read books! Bake cookies and have him hand you things and help stir!

Maybe it would be fun to have some ongoing projects… where you make a little progress every night together. Then instead of passing the time each evening, you’ll look forward to making more progress together.

- AA Milne wrote Winnie the Pooh stories. A new story each night and ended up with a book

- I’ve worked on puzzles with my girlfriend when she couldn’t walk around

- cooking or baking can be fun… choosing recipes, measuring ingredients, putting dough on pans etc.

My aunt used to teach my cousins sign language and she learned it herself when she had a lot of time to dedicate to my cousins. That’s the age when they are more susceptible to learning. I wish she had taught it to me!

They’re now 12 & 13 and whenever a special needs kids shows up at their school they always get kudos from the teachers or the principal because they always volunteer to help those kids.

Have a big toy box. Play the guitar and sing ABC’s. Play in the bathtub. Crayons are a miracle from God for a two year old. That’s what we do with the grandkids.

Whatever you do, don’t put him in a balloon so he can float away.

I worked alot when my daughter was 2 but when I did have nights off I would read with her, we baked cookies, she helped me carve the pumpkin and clean it out on halloween, we would play silly little games like hide n seek, I would teach her the abc’s 123’s and try to help her learn how to dress herself I would talk to her and get her to talk back to me to improve her vocal skills. There are a million and 1 things you can do. Be creative!!
