Haha, I could tell you cause trust me.. I’ve been there before ;)
But it takes a legal document which you and your parent have to sign and once a judge signs it and rights are read then you become an legal adult before you’re 18… Lol

A court order.

I’m sure that it varies state to state…but usually if there is abuse, or some other extrenuous situation…and the person (child) can prove that they are able to support themselves and take care of themselves, sometimes a court will grant the emancipation.

Whatever the fees are for the filing….

Every time you go to court, you have to open a case and file something. The court clerks have to work to do that in order to present it to a Judge. Each of the filings cost diff amounts.

But, you would have to have documentation to convince a judge that you can live on your own

If you can convince a judge that you would be able to care for yourself (a job that you have that will support you in an apartment…a job that you will be able to KEEP…probably FT work…also that you will continue with your education…a good judge won’t want to let you out of the house if you are not able to work/support yourself/continue your education.) Even though you are 16 and don’t legally have to go to school…a judge would make you stay at home in order to ensure that you will graduate from HS, if s/he thinks that staying at home will make it more possible to reach that milestone
