Absolutely not!!!! Oh my goodness she’s probably scrawny. I distinctly remember being 4′9″ 75 lbs. in fifth grade (I was 10 years old). I was TINY.

It’s so sad that so many YOUNG ladies feel the pinch of body image distortions. We as a society really need to start to value people for people and not for their size…

If she is 4′ 10″ and 78 lbs, she is not overweight. Her BMI (Body Mass Index) is 16.3 (http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/).

I would talk to her about healthy eating habits and exercise, to make sure she is not doing too much or too little of either.

Dude, your 11, stop stressing about your weight. Its healthy to puff out before you grow tall… Take advantage of this time in your life where you don’t have to worry over such things. Mind over matter mate.

Puff out? The kid is like 5 stone. Where’s the puff?

It’s the mom who is worried about her daughter’s body image….

Good point… Kids shouldn’t worry about these things in any case. The fact she does speaks to an unhealthy environment… Not that im one to talk being male, 5′11″ and 105 lbs. Just try to encourage her about her whole body image… It’d be better that way.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in BMI. It doesn’t particularly apply to children, because children’s bodies are made up differently than adults. Also, even with adults, it can be very misleading. For example, it will say that a body builder with 2% body fat is morbidly obese because muscle weighs more than fat. It could also say a person has a healthy BMI, but the person might have 60% body fat and hardly any muscle (obviously not healthy).

Tht’s insane, you should talk to your daughter about SELF body image. It sounds like she is worrying for no reason about something society has deemed “bad”.
