People cut themselves because they feel anxious and cutting distracts them from their anxiety.

What you need to do is find a new way to distract yourself from anxiety:

1. Deep long breathing in and out
2. Vigorous long exercise (ie. a long slow run say for 30-60 mins)
3. An activity that needs a lot of focus (ie. photography, a puzzle, etc.)
4. Singing to loud music
5. Joining a class that requires learning something new and focusing on it (ie. swimming, dance, etc.)

These things will calm you and build your confidence and improve your health. They are effective strategies for dealing with anxiety.

Cutting is a crutch like overeating, alcohol and drug abuse. It masks the anxiety but doesn’t channel it into anything positive.

Try pinpointing the reasons that you cut yourself, what makes you feel the need to do it?
Talking on here can help.

talk to someone. reach out on your own behalf. if you can do it here, you can do it where it will actually have a chance of helping you. do you consider yourself “emo” or does someone else label you that? because personally every friend i ever had call themselves “emo” were just looking for attention and never actually cut themselves.

stop defining yourself as “emo” for one thing, its sad and trashy and incredibly immature.
if youre doing it for attention, stop. no one cares.
if youre doing it because youre messed up, go to your school counselor, and talk it out.

I understand that cutting is the addictive. Try to find a good reason to stop for your own good. Never change just for the sake of someone else because when that person lets you down you will loose the reason. The best way to stop is one day at a time. For me it has been 3 months and 30 days.
