need help figuring myself out..

i got accepted in a great job opportunity abroad. it is satisfactory in terms of money/compensation as well as training and career growth. i’m leaving within next month.

now, this opportunity is kind of a lucky break. i mean, yeah i deserve it and i am qualified for it. but i was at the right place at the right time.

i’m used to working for everything i have. i’m not a lucky/rich/well-connected/extremely smart and talented person. so i just work my butt off to acquire things and get opportunities. really, i’ve never been the person who waits for and RECEIVES things and opportunities. it’s kinda hard to explain hmmmm.

now.. i guess i’m feeling quite uneasy. i feel like in how easily i have gotten this great chance, it’s also how easily and quickly it will be taken away.

i’m so stupid i don’t know why i feel this way. i DESERVE this chance. i’ve worked hard and done nothing wrong.

i am excited to go. but because of these feelings i’ve started to become intimidated. and i have this feeling that within a year i will be on my way back gaining nothing and losing everything. it’s crazy. i’m always ALWAYS highly motivated (hence why i am able to work hard). i don’t know what’s happening.

what’s wrong with me?

Basically, pull yourself together and stop worrying about it.

You have lot of work to do, and you should be prepared for that, not tired from worrying.

i have no problem with the preparation actually. i have confidence in my capability to work. in fact, i’m excited about that part.

i guess my point is that for some reason, i feel that the opportunity will be cut short because of some other factor. i don’t even know what.

i’ve always been the one who is cool about things, never worrying and always planning well. so this time, i don’t know. that’s why ‘pulling yourself together and stop worrying about it’ is easier said than done.

thanks for the response.

I reckon you need to stop thinking about yourself like a fixed entity who never thinks this way and only ever does things this way. There’s a change in your life and you’re worried about it. That’s totally fine and normal and acceptable. Let yourself worry- it’s not nice, but you’ll relax over time.

You made a typing error in your “story”:

you wrote:

should read:
now, this opportunity is kind of a lucky break. i mean, yeah i deserve it and i am qualified for it. AND i was at the right place at the right time.

You got it, cause you can do it, you’re worth it and worked “hard enough” for it.

Take it, experience it, have fun with it.

Hi Dear

What you Want ?

Do you want to know whether it is right to accept new opportunity ? I can help you in that case just let me know your Name, Place and opportunity ( Eg. Company name, position etc) .

If you just want to accept the opportunity without considering whether it is right or worng …….. I can help u .

I will suggest you for option one i.e. You will accept the oppertunity only if it divinely planned for you.
Take Care

its just nerves, everyone has them when starting something new. just reassure yourself that you know you have the skills and capability to do the job.

yes i got the part about the worrying actually. i guess i’m just wondering why i can’t help but feel like i don’t deserve this opportunity and what i can do about it.

thanks.

i am confident about my skills and capability actually. :) and yes i recognize the worrying about change etc. but what i’m curious about is how and why i get this feeling that i don’t deserve this opportunity. coz i don’t think it’s ‘nerves’ at all. i’ve been through some changes in my life - and was worrying although not really too much - but i never felt like i didn’t deserve something.

thanks!

I think you know you deserve it somewhere in your mind. If other people were left behind without it who also had a fair shot then that can be pretty gutting, though. But you’ve got it now whether you feel like you did enough for it or not. Who deserves to be from a well off family or to live near a good school or to have nice loving people around them as they’re growing up? You just have to accept that yeah you’ve worked hard and you’re good, but you’re lucky too, and that’s the way it is. You just can’t earn everything in life, and things will be given to you, but life will screw you over occasionally too. Take the good things when they come and make the most of it. Man, this post is cliche city!

In this situation, I would say to myself, with all the apprehension and fear inside me, that I would have to rely on those that are hiring me. That they see the potential for me to become great at this job and so I have to trust in that. Sometimes we feel we can control and see everything about our lives and other times we have to let others help us in furthering our careers.

Trust these people, they see in you potential for doing this job. Go with it, plan to make it a journey in self discovery. Nobody perfect but this can’t help but hone your character.

Just do your homework and make sure that this is a viable company. That they are profitable and that they look like they will stay profitable for years to come. Research their products, etc.

Good luck to you and I am sure you will be fine. We all get these jitters before taking on new responsibilities, so you are alone.
