Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
Make some money and move out. It is called motivation.
Hahaha. Makes sense! Thank you.
Do you live in the US? your state should have a housing authority. There are lots of organizations you can contact
Canada. And I am in a small town with few rental options….And it’s getting cold!
lol ok well i dont know about Canada. But is she/he breaking your lease in anyway? what his he/she doing
I have no lease. The owners don’t do one thing to maintain the building. I had water damage as a result of a leaky roof; damaged a highly collectible poster. Informed them, and they did nothing. I didn’t even get an apology…. Water damage downstairs caused part of the ceiling to collapse. Still lumber and pipes showing….
no lease… you screwed. I know b.c when i was renting a basement from a “friend” and it flooded. she said that it did every spring, and that I should of asked about that stuff…. needless to say we are no longer friends
In the United States, the laws vary by state. Someone mentioned to check with the local housing authority which is correct.
You may be entitled to rent abatement until a problem is repaired. You may or may not be entitled to move out, however…
Remain “professional” in your conduct toward the landlord and document each attempt and/or request you make for repair and/or improvement of conditions.
Read your lease carefully, it may contain a clause that’s relevant.
Provide the request for repair to the landlord in writing and keep a copy. Also keep a journal as to time/date of phone conversations requesting repair and save any documents left by maintenance people as well.
Even if they fix it you might be able to get back rent you’d payed on the devalued property.
Not fixing up the property. You know if you call me when something is broken it costs me money so I will have to charge you more is what I heard. FU I’m buying my own…
Hahahahaha! Thanks for the levity ; )
Well sometimes you can get someone in trouble for not making you sign a lease… well at least in the US. B/C even more so if they arent safe living conditions. Why didnt you sign one?
Was already in the building when these owners bought, and they never offered/requested one.
So you had signed one before with the last owners?
hmmmmm was it that bad when you moved in? well then you can move out without giving notice
It was fine when I moved in…it’s been downhill from there….
Are you saying there is no lease? If there’s not a written lease, move out.
Do I still have to give a month’s notice?

Not levity reality that really happened to me. MF is dead now but his children own over 300 houses. Oh, but every time he came over he would invite you to his church… HIS church.

no lease you could paint all the walls and do all sorts of craziness technically. You can move out with out notice
I suppose I would lose my damage deposit though
Thanks all, for your insight.
You gave a deposit and didnt sign a lease!?!?!??!?! they dont have to give you your money at all…. no record of it if there is no lease
You are not getting your deposit back… who did you give it to? Not the person you are renting from.
been there done that got the t-shirt wore it out… and am now cleaning my guns with it.
you could always “squat” long enough to break even. lol
Did you also give a deposit to the previous owners?
JUST to the original owners
If the rent is fair and things basically work AND if it seems you’re going to be there for a while, you could ask permission to improve the place yourself for the sake of living there or a lessening of a few months rent.
They returned my last 3 months cheques so they could up the rent $100. I don’t anticipate ANY lowering of rent.
I see. . . It’s time to find another place. Don’t give any notice. Move is stages, perferrably at night and let bygones begone! There are no serious contracts or lease agreements - and if there are the LL is a slummer. He ain’t gonna do nutin’.
My response to the SLL “Call The Law, MOFO!”
Really. Find another place, better place WITH equal or lesser rent.
Nothing is impossable in this matter, dear. Don’t circle a dead horse.
All My Best
Thank you, Allan :)
