I’ve been so depressed and stressed recently such that i have started to over eat :((

I just started work after graduation in a small-mid audit firm and i have thoughts of going to a big firm 4 firm 2 months ago. However, during the period when i was there, I get opportunities like going overseas to work and I’m under a good manager. I feel that I may do well in the small firm. Thus, i gave up that idea of going to a big 4.

These days, everyone in this small-mid firm is leaving and the motivation gets affected somehow but cos’ of a few people that i like to work with, i think its ok to stay. Then, some of my friends in that firm told me that they are going to go to the big 4 firm. All in all, all these constant leaving makes me wanna go with them to a big 4 as well.

What should i do? pls help cos ive been so stressed up over this matter.

Look at the pros and cons.

A teacher of mine also told me that when you have a problem just go to sleep or something and you’ll wake up with a solution. Sometimes that works for me and it’s quite amazing how it does.

Unstress by doing something that calms you.

You made a decision to stay with this small company…. look back over the reasons why you made that decision… do they still hold water. You can’t leave because others have gone…. you shouldn’t rely on others for motivation…. what’s stopping you being the person who motivates?

Pros for staying:
-Able to go overseas for audit work
-Stand a higher chance to be a manager someday

Cons for staying:
-Miss out on going to big 4; may not apply in future
-If one day, the manager leaves, I wont know what to do cos’ its like she the comfort zone and one reason y i wanna stay

Pros for going to big 4:
-Brand name
- MOre opportunities but im not too sure if i can get it

Cons for going to big 4:
- Too big an environment; too competitive, not noticable.
-Harder to climb up that ladder if ur not good enough

I know i want to work in the usa one day; maybe one year later…im not sure but i want to work in the usa for long term. So i need to have a kickasss resume

Firstly, I go to that small firm is cos’ im unable to get into the big 4. Now, im almost sure i can get into the big 4 if i apply cos they r hiring n im quite confident now (long story why but im a different person as before).

When people leave, they bring ur moral down a bit. I have so much drive but somehow them leaving r starting to kill it.

And to have a kickass resume sometimes you have to go for the more difficult things in life. I think either way, in the future you’ll be thrown a bone in life but the more hard working you are and the more ready to take on anything you look, the more doors that are open for you.

Don’t be a follower. Choose what YOU want to do. Let’s say if those friends you enjoy working with all decided to go jump off a bridge, I would dope you wouldn’t follow them. I’m not trying to come off mean, but if you really feel that you enjoy their company and would like to stick around them a bit more then go on and join the group :) make a move that would make you happy in the end result. Going overseas, and to a bigger firm are opportunities not everyone is handed every day.

Let it marinate while you have the time to do so.

Good luck.
