i hate people who call themselves or others emo.
it’s obnoxious, immature, and attention seeking. grow up. i don’t care if you’re 13 or 32. Everyone has rough times, everyone has their own style. “Emo” is not a style or a personality. It is a slang word cut from the word “emotional”.

ok I don’t hate the people. I hate that they choose to do so. I can’t say I hate the person if I don’t know them.
What has brought this on?
i hate peas and ham also. i just am tired of my 13 year old cousin saying it & everyone & their mother’s uncle’s left nut says it in a post on this site. it’s not a state of being or a state of mind. it’s a made up word to describe depressed people & make it seem cool. it’s now a “type” of person who cuts and wears dark eye liner and seems to be what “goth” was a few years back when i was in high school. but i just don’t get it. i really just don’t. i know words were all made up at one point. but depressed is a medical condition. “emo” is a ridiculous way to make depression & angst seem cool. when it isn’t.
Good point, i guess i agree with you there. Nobody can be typecast so easily.
I thaught emo was an abreviation of more than just emotional, there was something else on the end of it?
it started from a type of music called “emotional hardcore”, and when it was drafted to a type of person and what not it was dropped to just “emotional”
Oh, ok.
Does this have some personal effect on you?
Do you get called emo?
Seems pretty dumb to describe a cutter as an emo, cutting has been around for years, before ‘emo’ was created.
Goth in my eyes is different from emo, i was a goth (though not as dedicated as some of my friends at school), i only know a couple of ppl now classed as ‘emo’ i don’t see them being very much the same. Very different music also.
PS, i like ham but i also hate pea’s. :)
I love how emos pride themselves in being ‘outcasts’ and ‘individuals’ when they, like every other conformist social group (e.g goths, preps) have to meet a certain criteria in order to be labelled an emo (e.g. cutters, black eyeliner, side-swept fringe, weird clothes and having an avid interest in screamo core music).
So really, they, like everybody else, are just conforming to a social style in order to fit in and be accepted. Emos, in my humble opinion, are pathetic excuses for humans and need to grow some **** balls already.
All labels are dumb. They’re just another way to categorize people into being the same and inevidably feeling insignificant. Childish.
i don’t think they’re poor excuses for humans. everyone’s human. everyone needs something, but i just think conforming to the nontraditional makes it seem more common and less… interesting. let alone cool. it’s just another way to fit in without “fitting in”. but… come on. guys don’t belong in skinny jeans and neither do some girls… no offense.
so why label yourself and say “oh i’m emo because i do this”? because that seems to be the trend, is most of the people i’m referring to are referring to themselves as emo.

Because it is considered cool to be an emo. Because they want to fit in. Because they are so dull themselves that they need a label to make them seem more interesting, per se, when really they are just little whiny brats who need to get over themselves.
I agree we have had ENOUGH of the skinny jeans look, especially on guy’s, it was barely acceptable 1st time round in the 70’s & 80″s, some fashions should be left well alone in the past, where they belong!
People put way too much effort into not conforming & by doing so, are conforming to what a non conformer must be.
How about we all just get on with doing what we want & wearing what we want & f**k everyone else & their idea’s on how we should look, act & be!
ugh. some days i wanna just shake my cousin & tell her “everyone feels like this when they’re 13. sometimes even when they’re 17. 22. 45. 83. Come on! Everyone needs comfort and reassuring but what the eff is this all about??? She’s so much more… attractive and personable when she’s not dressed head to toe in black with ridiculous eyeliner and sulking in a corner saying “i’m emo”.
Here here J.N.
The emo phase will pass, like with most fads, or at least depreciate in size and popularity. I wish that instead of emos there were like, disco hippies or something, because at least then they’re not all sulking and crying and cutting and hating the world, but were fun loving stupid people with good hearts. I think it’s about time for a 70’s disco revival. I am going to set about making this happen, whether or not I am successful in making it the ‘popular’ thing again is not important really. I’ll be having fun in my mirror ball disco suit listening to Gloria Gaynor and Patrick Hernandez on my boom box to care :D
where do you live sprite because i will be joining you and dragging an angst ridden 13 year old with bleeding eye makeup & ridiculous attire behind me
Sprite, let’s face it, we all would look better in flares than skinny jeans! Im with you on this one :)
Yay some recruits! Okay guise well basically I live in the U.K so I can work the Scotland area, I’ll try get some more folk together. We’ll be dressing up in our silver flares and aviators. Also, I declare this as the new ‘it’ song:
Notice how the lyrics are actually upbeat and inspiring. No mention of ‘I hate my life’ or ‘My heart bleeds and wants to die’.
lol. Come on we can make this cool again!
****. i’m definitely stateside in the u.s. :( and i definitely revealed my identity like i hadn’t intended to since i phrased the original post wrong.
It won’t play on my comp :(

Don’t worry about the anon slipping, it’s not like it’s a really embarassing post :)
I am in the us at the mo so we ould start it up now before i go bk to Scotland!
lol carey that’s cool because it needs to become a worldwide phenomenon anyway. Emos are everywhere. We must expel them from the dark corners of society with our bright disco lights, funky baselines and groovy dance moves! Bring them into the light of disco.
Also, the revealing of identity happens all the time. Nobody really cares, lol. :P

Oh good stuff lol well It’s definitely a good song, very funkalicious.
I’m actually going to do this. I should make a documentary or post picture updates or do a video blog or something all about this revival.
It’ll be a fun project. :)
Also, because the first one is disabled here is another that works:
This thread is now about disco and happy music!
I am off to my mums wardrobe to dig out her flare’s right now!
my mom used to have kick *** white gogo boots but my grandma threw them out. Dizzamn.
^^^ Not having much luck tonight!
Yay sounds like a plan J.N. I’m going to ask my mum for any of her old disco clothes and will wear them in town on Saturday night, along with my disco boots and fill-necked shirt.
I hated that carey, got it all the time when I was new. Don’t worry, it will pass, lol!
Be careful with that, if you do swear do it like this S**t C**P etc
They get kinda funny with that
