Trying to regain some memory on an older XP Home Computer.

Please can anyone answer this question: do you need microsoft .net framework 1.1. If you have downloaded microsoft .net framework 2.0 service pack and microsoft .net framework 3.0 service pack 2, and have also downloaded microsoft .net framework 3.5 SPI. Are all these needed or can some be removed? Thanks Sincerly for anyones help!!!

If you downloaded it, you can safely remove it or all of them. Other things you can do is download the free http://www.ccleaner.com/download
This will clean a whole load of stuf that is unneeded from your hard drive. Find any old or unused programs that you no longer use or need.

The .net framework is used for some programs that use them. In the old days programs mainly relied on Visual Basic run times. Back in them days the run times were very small and didn’t take up any space. Since about 2000 though, newer programs are written upon .net framework and if you have certain programs that use them they will not function if you remove the framework. but its a case of trial and error - you can remove them - but if programs you use need them, they’ll simply say install them again :)
