can anybody recommend a lightweight Linux distro that will run on old hardware?

i’m looking a a Pentium III 566 MHz, 256MB of RAM, on board video 2MB shared RAM

arch. It’d take longer to setup than xubuntu, but then much faster and more versatile. (I haven’t tried ‘puppy’, but along those lines, I think maybe Slax, a minimal user-friendly live-slackware compilation, might be be able to be installed to a hard drive.)
