why are guys idiots?

i met this guy on holiday and we became really good friends. After he left we began texting each other and got even closer and we both admitted to liking each other. He knew i was really shy and he was lovely for ages. We live miles away from each other so we were talking about meeting up because we hadn’t seen each other in a few months. We were chatting one night and at the end of the conversation he said he loved me - it wasn’t the first time he had said it but it was the first time i said it back to him because i’m so shy. After that conversation he stopped texting me - at first it was because he had no credit - but now he just isn’t speaking to me and i have no idea why. I’m so confused, why did he stop texting me when he was so lovely before?
I did give him a chance to reply, i haven’t spoken to him in a few weeks because he isn’t texting me. Should i text him/ask him why he has stopped texting me??? Please help me, i have never liked anyone like this before and i don’t want to stop speaking to him because we were getting on so well but i have no idea what to do.
