Hi, I’ve been dealing with a deep sadness for many years.

I would like to get help but the kind of help that is available to me requires that I take medication in conjunction with therapy. I don’t mind therapy. In fact, I want therapy. But I won’t go back to medication. I was on them for many years and I feel that they hurt me much more than they helped… and I don’t think they helped much to begin with. I’ve taken several different meds and in different dosages and in different combinations. They all pretty much sucked and had horrible side effects. I don’t believe meds are the answer but now, services for these issues want a quantifiable measurable way to know that a person is getting helped. And for many services, this means meds. I won’t go back to meds though. Any suggestions?

theres really no way a therapist can force you to take meds in order to see them. the only way you can be forced to take meds is if you are sectioned and institutionalised.
simply tell them you will not take the medication, but are very open to therapy.
if they say no, look for another therapist.

Courtybubble is right…they cannot force you to take medication unless you are sectioned, which they are unlikely to do unless you pose a direct threat to yourself or others…
Most therapists are content to provide their services without issuing medication, and if they are not then just find someone else…

Therapy and medication do not go hand in hand you can have one without the other…
