Will they UNDERSTAND?

!

I have major depression and an anxiety disorder. Lately, I have been falling behind on school work. I have been “sick” and missed many days. My psychiatrist said that they could talk or give a letter to my teachers explaining my situation.

I’m worried though. This isn’t a flu, cold, or fever. What would teachers think and do if they have figured that their student is suffering from major depression and anxiety. I don’t think they would care…

What do you think?

teachers are there to help students through tough situation, not to judge them. The last thing you should feel is embarassment or shame from a medical condition. if anything they will try to accomodate you in any way they can

teachers will have come across this before im sure. they are trained to deal with this in the correct manner. so dont worry. they are there to help. they might even help you and lessen the load at school. good luck.

don’t worry! :) your teachers will understand. i’m pretty sure they have dealt with similar cases before. maybe a lot of them confidential.

plus, you have your doctor and parents to help explain. :)

best of luck! :)

I think some teachers will think it is a load of crap you are not sick go to school. Others will understand. I don’t know about any law if a teacher wants to fail you for not showing up they will. Try and sue the school for grades…

I am a teacher and I have had students bring letters with these kinds of issues. Technically teachers have to respect these issues, but some teachers are more respectful than others. It’s worth a try, though. If the teacher doesn’t respect it, you can go to the administration and overturn their decision anyway.
