You know you’re a Facebook addict when …

1. You lose sleep over Facebook

If you’re staying up late at night because you’re on Facebook, and you’re tired the next day, Facebook may be a compulsion for you. You shouldn’t be neglecting yourself because of Facebook.

2. You spend more than an hour a day on Facebook.

3. You become obsessed with old loves

4. You ignore work in favor of Facebook

5. The thought of getting off Facebook leaves you in a cold sweat

You know you are addicted to facebook when:-

1. You have a 10 page research paper that is worth half your grade due tomorrow and you find yourself getting distracted by facebook every 5 mins.

2. When talking with your friends someone says a random comment and you all exclaim “facebook quote!”

3. After meeting someone new, you ask if they have a facebook.

4. You check your facebook as soon as you wake up, and right before you go to bed, including the 10 times you check it during the day.

5. You feel like you are missing out on something important if your internet is down and can’t check facebook.

6. As soon as a friend signs up to facebook, you can’t help but go through all your albums and tag them in photos.

7. When you take a photo, you are already deciding which photos will be suitable to upload on facebook and find yourself saying aloud “That one is going on facebook!”

8. You find yourself trying to word things in a certain way just so they will be suitable to include in your status, “(Your name here) is …..”

9. Someone asks you for a photo, so you tell them you will put it on facebook.

10. You spend hours looking through peoples photo albums, even if they were an old friend from school who you no longer speak to or have anything to do with.

11. You can’t imagine what life was like before facebook.

12. You keep hitting refresh to see if anybody wrote on your wall in the last 2 minutes.

13. You have a full conversation with your roommate(s) on their wall.

14. You know how to word friend details so that they will read correctly to other people.

15. As soon as you get pictures from some event that you attended you immediately have to upload them to facebook.

16. You’ve tried to go a day without using facebook and you realize it’s both improbable and impossible.

17. You accept friend requests even if you don’t know the person just so you can up the number of friends you have.

18. You see yourself in one of your friend’s pictures and decide to tag yourself even if you are in the distant background just so there will be more pictures of you on your profile.

19. You base the quality of your day on how many wall posts or messages you’ve received.

20. You check to see how many of your friends are “online now” every 5 min.

21. You join all the groups that talk about being addicted to Facebook.

22. You have so many applications on your profile that when your friends want to write on your wall, they give up because it takes too long to scroll down that far!

23. You actually keep up with all of your applications… on a daily basis.

24. You have Facebook saved as your main internet icon or your homepage so you get to it faster. You also have your password saved on your computer so you don’t have to keep signing in every three minutes.

Does it distract you from getting your daily tasks done? It also depends on how long a facebook session lasts. If you check it say 3 times a day for 5 minutes a time, no that’s not a problem. But 3 times a day for an hour at a time, yeah. I check it frequently but only when there is down time and only for a 5 minute block

If you can, try to dedicate blocks of the day to facebook so that it doesn’t distract you. Say, check it for half an hour during a class study and then for half an hour or an hour in the evening/night. If you add up all of the minutes spent on facebook, you will probably realize how many other things you could do, like learning a new hobby, hanging out with friends, keeping close with your family.

It will take discipline to isolate set times to check facebook, but it should help prevent you from living off status updates and wall posts =)

It’s hard to concentrate and focus. So you’re using the distraction of facebook to avoid the anxiety of having to concentrate and focus on something else.

This is how addictions are created: when doing something is a relief for something uncomfortable.
