Chondromalacia Patellae/runner’s knee/patellofemaral pain syndrome– who else has this?

Hey all– I’ve been dealing with this for the last 2 years or so really. It came about because I was a really avid runner– one day I was doing one-legged squats and I pushed up too quickly and heard a loud clicking noise in my knee that was more of a grinding. I was diagnosed with chondromalacia a year or so after that and I’m still dealing for another year at 18.
I had it reprieve a bit during the summer, but now the pain is back in action after bicycling way too far and for way too long. Anybody know if this EVER goes away and any good ways to take care of it? I’ve been to physical therapy and do my exercises daily, I’ve been to an orthopedic surgeon and they all say it is natural wearing away and shouldn’t be causing me problems– shouldn’t be, of course, but I am getting pain now and then and the knee just feels funny.
