life help: I have no passions or dedications. - Help.com

I have no passions or dedications.

I’m 21.
Very little seems to be worth the effort involved. I can’t understand people can invest so much into what they do. I have very little sense of self; my actions can be generally reduced to what is objectively superior. For as long as I can remember, I had loved video games, and now I barely play any anymore. I feel like a robot, but I am not depressed or sad, just flat. I’m not really sure where to go from here.

Occasional drink or bowl, not very frequently, and most of this started before I did anything but alcohol.

k… I lacked motivation when I smoked bowls. I quit smoking and it’s been like 6 months since I have. I feel like I’m getting a lot better about being able to make goals for myself. I just got my boyfriend to quit and he’s already looking in to going to school again. How much is not very frequently?

Maybe once a week or so, on the decline because I don’t really want to smoke even.

I feel like I understand things too well, and subsequently, things are empty.

It seems like I just don’t want things and the things I do want, I don’t want anywhere near the level of effort involved in procuring them.

Well you have to bust your butt, but once you get use to a routine that you can come up with on your own, its really easy. Have you started college yet?

I’m on my 2nd semester at my local community college, which is actually supposed to be a rather good school.

Just try to imagine not having interests. I just kind of exist.

well you’re young. a lot of people find their passion quite late in life. i think you’ve seen/heard about those stories. like a mom in her 40s who left her work to fulfill a certain hobby. stuff like that.

the trick i think is being open to many things. be ready to say YES to an opportunity. try stuff! even activities that you think you’ll never enjoy.

but they won’t come to you when you’re home sitting in the couch. go out and experience. it might be a trial and error thing and it may require some effort. but i’m pretty sure it will be all worth it. :)
