loneliness help: I feel incredibly lonely. - Help.com

This post left anonymously

I feel incredibly lonely.

I live with two other girls and while one has been out all week at her boyfriend’s place the other has been in but she doesn’t speak an awful lot. She’s just gone home for the weekend and I’m feeling very alone and tearful. I’ve talked to my boyfriend and he keeps saying “Play some guitar” or “Do some exercise” but I don’t think he’s getting it that I don’t really have the energy or even want to do these things right now. Help.

I understand how you feel. Do you have anyone who you can go and spend time with?

If this was me I would do the following:

Keep telling yourself “I can either keep moping or get up and do something” and every time you feel bad, even if its every 10 seconds. Keep saying that or something similar.

Refuse to feel like crap and go out and find someone to be with!

Maybe do something like watch tv. That kind of makes you forget all of your troubles if you are watching something you enjoy. I hope you start to feel better.
I also scrapbook when I’m alone and if you are missing someone in particular it helps me to do something creative for them that will take up a lot of my time.

Your boyfriend is right… you have to find something to distract yourself… what’s the point in sitting feeling sorry for yourself… put your shoes on and take a walk… say hi to any one you pass…. borrow a dog to walk if you have to have a purpose to go for a walk… but sitting feeling sorry for yourself won’t achieve anything except you sitting here the same time tomorrow feeling even more depressed.
