relationship help: Stupid question, but here goes. - Help.com

Stupid question, but here goes.

I’m really unhappy with my boyfriend. He doesn’t answer his phone when I call, doesn’t answer his door if he asks me to come over. He says he’s asleep and he’s narcoleptic so maybe. Also, he told me a few months ago that we would get married by December, but he still hasn’t proposed. Basically, I can’t trust anything he says.
I’ve been trying to break up with him for months, but every time I do, he refuses to accept it and just acts like nothing happened. With that background, how can I break up with him and have it bother him, not me. He never seems to care whether I stay or leave. Also, if I do stay with him, how can I make my relationship better and have him treat me with more respect?

You complain about him not proposing to you when you’re thinking of dumping him? What the hell?

Uh… I wouldn’t be thinking about dumping him if he hadn’t said that he wanted to get married and never followed through. More about him being untrustworthy than wanting to marry him.

You are already unhappy before tying the knots, so don’t. When you said trying to break up with him for months and he won’t let you, did you tell him why did you consider it? It seems he doesn’t take you serious. If nothing helped and you tried everything, to break up with someone like him is one way: don’t call him, visit him anymore. See how soon will he start missing you and realize his loss.

Just dissappear out of his life and times. Don’t answer his phone calls anymore. He will get the hint that you guys are broken up.

Nowhere is it written where people have to agree to break up for the break up to be official.

Just don’t call or go to his place anymore and if he looks for you, give him all kinds of excuse not so see him.

Did that ever occur to you? He does not have to agree to break up. Just do it!

He sounds very appethetic and that’s a difficult trait to come against.
If you decide to break up with him, stand by your decesion or you will become an enabler. Wether the break-up affects him or not is, I believe, not the point.
I would be careful of his presumptivness that both of you are just going to get married - where’s all the romance and courtship? Where’s the ceremony, etc?
I believe if you continued to stay with him, he will have no greater respect for you than he does now.

I guess that’s true… I just have a really hard time saying no to people, unless I’ve had closure. I just feel weird just ending it without telling him.

Next time you see him and talk to him tell him this:

Take a hike on the freeway on the fast lane, blindfolded, totally naked, covered in honey, with African killer bees chasing you, with all the hair on your body on fire, including the hair on your private parts, with two nice chewy and juicy steaks hanging from your waist, and hyenas and dingos chasing you trying to get the steaks!

Do you think he will get the hint you don’t want to see him anymore?

Look you are way overcomplicating this, tell him you guys are done and excommunicate him from your life, it dosent matter if he “accepts it or not” if a 70 year old homeless man ask you out and wont accept no are you gonna date him too?

Take control, if you dont want to be with him, you dont have to be.
