I sprained my ankle…

Does anybody know what sort of AT HOME things that we can do to help make it better, faster?
I’d rather not go to a concert in crutches. And I played $50 for that ticket.

It’s kind of swollen, and all we’ve been doing so far is putting ice on it.
Pleaseeeee can someone tell me something that might help, even a little?

This might sound dumb, but use it… gently that is.

Keep it flexing ever so gently, you will be able to walk on it more normally sooner than if you just let it swell and sieze up.

By flexing, you mean how?
So, I should just keep walking on it? (or trying to..)

I went back to work the next day…

I have pretty high pain tolerance so it may be harder for some people.

Btw, I sprained it yesterday. If that helps at all.

Don’t blame you! I don’t go to doctors much either! :)

As long as nothing is broken you should be okay.

Ice and elevate. Use compression to for the first day or two I think , like a tensor bandage or wrap, just make sure you wrap it enough. Too many people just wrap the ankle and its not enough. Wrap from your toes all the way up to under your knee (not too tight, just snug). Do that and you should make the concert. Who are you seeing?

As soon as you sprained it you should have buried it in ice until it hurt, and then left it there for another hour. The damage is done now. Wrap that thing in tape and then an elastic bandage for support and get some pain killers for the concert. Uh huh…

The basic treatment for a sprained ankle is RICE

R : Rest
I : Ice
C : Compression
E : Elevation

Rest it, get it packed in ice for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, no more than 6 times a day, compress it with a tube-grip or other sort of breathable bandage and elevate it on a stool or chair etc, as this will help drain the fluid and reduce swelling.

A stiff upper lip and walking it off will not help, it will also lead to extensive tissue damage which will cause chronic repeat injuries and discomfort in the future.
