No. We should be protesting the laws now. Quick throw away your IRS forms and tell your employer you are a student and exempt…

Not to sound paranoid or anything, but it’s all a form of control for the government - I agree, we should be protesting now.

People should not fear their government, the government should fear its people.

The main problem with Parliament taxes during the American Colonial Period were that they kept the colonies economically inferior to the British Empire, thus keeping them politically inferior as well. So I think protest was just.

this question has two parts yes taxation was protested but the larger part of the protest was due to the fact that the taxes were passed down without any form of representation. a minimalist example of this would be to say king george decides he needs a boat the royal treasury is running a bit lean so he says no problem we’ll impose taxes on those colonies who are far away and thus can not effectively say no. as loyal subjects to the king tax after tax was imposed, and there was noone to speak for the interests of those colonies who could say “the colonists are very much against the idea of further taxation you might want to rethink this.”

so instead they held a tea party. in order to successfully debate the fairness of the colonists taxation one must take into account how many taxes had allready been passed, and that the colonists were against the second part of being taxed more than the first. the exact quote being “no taxation without representation”
