In the 1800’s the women of the Great Plains would have done all of the chores that it takes to run the household including farm chores (milking animals, helping with births, feeding them), child rearing, cooking, cleaning (dirt floors would need to be swept, dust was a constant problem), sewing clothes (without sewing machines) tanning hides, etc.

Read the books by Laura Ingals Wilder. “Little House” The stories aren’t the same as the T.V. series (As Hollywood has put her stories on their pillow).
