girl help: I need some ideas for a 10 year old girls birthday. - Help.com

I need some ideas for a 10 year old girls birthday.

Any women out there that can tell me what a 10 year old girl wants? I was raised in a home of all men so I can only think of the things I got when i was 10 like a shot gun or Bicycle (and she already has a bike).

Hmmm…I will have to think on that. I am very much a tomboy, so anything I like a normal girl probably won’t. What does she like to do? Is she a tomboy?

She’s kind of a tomboy as well. She likes skateboarding, music (gorillaz, green day, pink, that type of stuff), but she also likes dragons and fantasy.

I didn’t, but that is probably the tomboy part of me.

Get her some books! THere are tons of stories that have fantasy in them, and all are really good. You could also get her a new skateboard (that is what I wanted!) or just a new design on her board. Are you in the US? If so, what state? If you are in Oregon, go to Powells book store, and take her. She would be thrilled beyond words if she likes to read..

no, I’m in Virginia. We’ve got some great book stores, but she just got the book Eldest (second in the eragon series) and she hasn’t even started it yet, so I’m not too sure on books. I haven’t seen her skating as much anymore either. I think I may have spoke to soon on that. She’s been going through a lot of personality changes lately. No more britney spears, favorite color went from green to black to hot pink to…well…I can’t keep up anymore.

ok, so:
Books - Can anyone think of any good ones other than Harry Potter?
Makeup - What kind of makeup? Isn’t 10 a little young for makeup?

Music I can do. Clothes (and shoes and stuff)I will leave to my wife (clothse shopping for my daughters scares me). Art supplies I can do. The skateboard is a little expensive, but I’ll talk that one over with my wife.

I appreciate the help.

She might like the series of Icefire, Molly Moon, Gregor the Overlander, Inkheart, Magyk or the Riddles of Epsilon, all really good books. I have no clue on the makeup department, as I still do not wear any…I suppose your wife might be a little better in that, you know, female to female…

Just read through all the posts and realised she is a tomboy… even tomboys/skater girls like jewellery, just a different kind (more black and pointy and less silver and pink!)

I think jewelry is a go. I just remembered that she actually asked for jewlry when she was writing a Christmas list and she didn’t really get any, so I think that’s a great idea.

Thank you all for the help. I think I have enough ideas, I really appreciate the help.

Depending on where you live, how about a trip to London’s Albert Hall to see the wonderful, magical show “Cirque du Soleil” check it out on “www.cirquedusoleil.com”

I cannot imagine anyone not coming out totally mesmerised. It’s an experience a 10 year old will cherish forever I am sure.

My daughter is also turning ten this summer. My mom died when I was nine years old, so I decided to start a tradition to celebrate each new decade of my daughter’s life (when she turns ten, twenty, thirty, etc.). I’m thinking of a mother/daughter weekend or trip. I haven’t decided what we’re going to do yet, but I’m hoping to make this a very special tradition between us. I told my daughter about it and she thinks it’s a great idea and is getting really excited about the possibilities. We live in Santa Cruz, so we could go into San Francisco, go to Southern California, go hiking or camping in the Sierra’s, Big Sur, etc.

Kids typically have way too much stuff as it is (and we’re on the low, low end of the consumption craze…), I think this will be much more memorable and fun for both of us. Good luck!
