If you don’t want to get ripped off, you are looking in the wrong place. It’s only a matter of minutes before somebody is going to come on here and offer you a loan. It’s going to be a scam.
That being said, you can’t easily get an unsecured, legitimate, loan for 4000 dollars with bad credit. You are going to have to pull from various resources. What’s the 4000 for?
I have gotten a loan through prosper.com - the people who give the money are actually just regular people like you and me - so it’s like an investment for them. You state what you’re willing to pay interest-wise, and the site tries to match you up with a loan. Be prepared to have a good story/reason for why you need the loan, though - I think the people who choose to lend do it based on more than just your scores…I think they really do take into account your situation. (And don’t make up a story…there’s no point in that.)
I have heard good things from prosper.com, byt you are the first person I have actually seen use it. Was it truly helpful? Were the terms fair?
The terms were extremely fair considering my husband and I set what our limits were regarding interest and payment terms. They didn’t accept us right away, but on our second attempt they did and it really gave us a break. The third time we used them our loan request was accepted almost immediately. :) When we’re “out of this hole” I plan to be one of the people who use it as an investment. I really do think it’s that good. Not to mention a novel idea…a different, and much needed, new approach.
Great. Thanks for the insight. I’m going to look in to it a little more. I was a little distrusting of it when I first heard of it only because I was having a problem imagining why people would risk putting money in to such a high risk investment for such a low return, but I guess I may have been too quick to judge.
Either way, reddvett0, depending on what you are using this money for, there may be less expensive options for you such as grants or secured loans. Research all your options. If you give a little more information, I might be able to point you in the direction of a few more options for you.

Just a note if they have a yahoo email address they are most prob a preditory lender do not give them any personal info or a fee it does not cost money to take out a loan
