My muscles ache constantly.

I’m in Cosmetology school, which I put in about 38-40 hours/week. I also work part time at a drug store and get in about 15-20 hours/week. The thing is, I CONSTANTLY ache. I posted awhile back about how stressed I am ..which probably does have something to do with it, but I’ve gotten past that a little bit. I’ve been to the doctor once before ..for my feet. He did x-rays and laid me off work. He said I have something called Plantar Fasciitis, which has honestly never gotten better even though I wear insoles in my shoes. I woke up on Friday though with my back and neck just hurting so bad, and Saturday it was worse. Sunday I woke up with the upper part of my legs killing me. It hurts to walk up stairs and to get up from sitting. I’m thinking of calling the doctor tomorrow, but I have school and I don’t really want to miss if I don’t have to.. The thing is, everything is getting worse. I’ve taken pain relievers ..and I do have muscle relaxers but since I have to get up early, I can’t take them because I have trouble waking up. Does anyone know what could be wrong with me? My boyfriend who used to be a paramedic believes that my body is just worn down. I go to school Tuesday-Saturday and work Sunday,Monday,Tuesday and Saturdays. So I never actually have a day ‘off’. Any suggestions? :(

It probably has everything to do with it, in my far off opinion. The side-effect problems might have taken a while to surface or become unsupressed. Drugs wouldn’t help, only proper nutrition, rest, basic self-care.

Well then I honestly guess I’m going to have to wait until May/June. My job is what stresses me out and I won’t be stress free until I graduate from school in May. I feel like I never have a break.

One thing I’ve learned is that normal muscle-ache from heavy exercise is not build up of lactic acid or toxins or anything. The pain is from tissue damage, many tiny rips in the muscles. So the only thing that helps there is actual rest and new protein intake. That’s part of my idea underlying my first reply above. Also I’ve been overworked overstressed for lengthy periods of time and know how physically destructive and bodyaching it can be.

Maybe it can be less stressful. It is less so than it was before, somehow?

No, the only reason things are less stressful is because my dad is doing a little better, health wise. Also, I got my hours changed at work ..and I’m going in later which allows me to actually sleep in a few hours. 5-10 instead of 8am-4pm on Sun & Monday.

So what do you suggest I do Michael? Just get more rest? Skip out on seeing the doctor?

I was thinking slowly about it, while reading this: http://www.helpguide.org/mental/stres… … so my suggestion would probably be to talk to the expert, the doctor.

But all the aches would probably go away if you spent your time taking care of your physical self instead of doing such abstract things like using the computer. Again, that’s just my uninformed opinion based on knowing that’s the case in my life. Rest or exercise, but be noticing all your physical feelings, rather than all these words.

Actually I’m never on the computer, I never have time when I go to school from 9-5 and work 6-10 or something… I just got online to try and look up what could cause me to be so achy because I can’t deal with it anymore. I’ve done nothing different from my routine and it’s getting worse.. but thanks for the help I guess. I would love to exercise but I can barely move. Literally.

I didn’t give my last replies much thought because I don’t feel like I’m in the right position to give really good advice (stressed and muscles aching)… other people with better wisdom may show up.

Have you thought about changing your location, could the climate be causing you problems?

It sounds as though you have had Epstein-Barr virus and/or toxoplasma gondii, and whilst the body was tired and you were under stress, your immune system began to work differently that is presently causing myalgia, which could lead to multiple sclerosis or a chronic fatigue syndrome. The thing to do in this case would be to: take in lots of vitamin C and a multi-vitamin complex, take in approx. 1.5 litres of fluid per day, stop drinking coffee and caffeine containing drinks, stop eating bread and other wheat or flour containing foods, eat lots of fish, eat lots of green leafy vegetables, take a daily berocca when feeling very tired, lift weights daily to keep muscle tone, and also ask the doctor to prescribe an anti-viral drug that needs to be taken for approx a month (this will bring down your viral load and assist the immune system). After the above regime you should begin to feel much better. Whenever there is a return to symptoms, the above regime needs to be followed again.
