How can I motivate myself, to clean my house everyday?
Most days I find that I just dont want to do it. Even though things need to be done. I’ve tried all different things, doing it in 20 minute intervals, working on one specific area, trying to make a game of it so I find it fun, try to black mail myself by saying “if you dont get it done, you cant do this” etc etc but I never seem to be able to keep my whole house tidy. It’s not like I have kids or anything I live by myself at the moment, my hubby is away and it’s just me and my animals! Haha, 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 birds. I suspect most of the dirt and hair and what not comes from my dogs especially my pup who is just chewing up everything at the moment. I want to be one of those people who cant go to sleep without the house and everything in it being organised and clean. Nothing seems to work for me. I procrastinate so bad and have no motivation to do it. Somebody please help me!!!!!

Have you tried doing it at a specific time? Like Just as you wake up before you take a bath?
Watch the show horders i bet after watching you will find the motivation. After seeing other peoples dirty houses i clean my house a lot since i don’t want to end up like that. Just a suggestion.
I think I overwhelm myself I think if I clean one part I have to clean everything like scrub walls and skirting boards and crap like that, I feel like something is missing when I dont, and I just dont have that kind of time to do it hey. My friend said I might have like OCD, but if that was the case wouldn’t I be cleaning forever? With me I have to be able to do all of it, or nothing and because I dont have the time to do it all, I do nothing! I have tried doing it at a specific time, or say do 5 hours a day, I just cant keep up with it!
I already dont want to be like how I am! Just dont know how to snap myself out of it and just get it done!
How many hours a day do you guys clean your houses for? If you dont mind me asking?
Honestly I have the same problem that you do. But I do recall a time when I was more organised and I used to clean my surrounding religiously every morning.
I haven’t read anything else,
but think about what people think of your place when they come over, should be a good enough reason.
I know me to!! I use to have everything beautiful all the time, I just dont see the motivation now that I live by myself. I know I should do it for me and not for other people but gosh it’s so hard lol.
Invite your mother over more often. Then you have to clean before she gets there.
Hey ! That’s like an awesome idea. I’m going to do that, and even if I dont get it all done my mum will guilt me into getting it done or even help me with it lol!
Just, take the vaccum cleaner, turn on some music and go :D Don’t think so much, just clean ^^ Listen to the music, act like a zombie and just clean :) Works for me evry time ^^
Hey I guess I think to much about it, I’m a gonna not a do-a. And I really want to be a do-a! lol. Thanks guys, you may just have been my motivation!
I find that it’s easier to maintain what’s already clean. Once it gets really messy, I get discouraged. I have a small place, so it looks cluttered pretty quickly. I’m going to try to get rid of some stuff this weekend for the sake of my sanity. Struggling along with you.
You might want to think about the systems you have in place for catching all the stuff that becomes a mess. Having stations for activities that you do often and duplicating supplies so that, for example, the scissors don’t end up in all kinds of places and you keep having to hunt for them. I’m generally organized (cleaning is a zen activity for me) but when my household expanded, there was a book I found quite helpful. It’s called “The House That Cleans Itself” by Mindy Starns Clark. There’s stuff in it about ensuring the line of sight is tidy so that it feels visually clean, planning in advance for messes and ways to make cleaning convenient.
Thanks guys! Keep the advice flowing if you’ve got more! I need all the help you can get and pax2, I will deffinately invest in that book!!! My hubby comes home in a couple of months so I need to make sure I snap out of whatever it is I’ve got myself into before he comes home!
I don’t know, b/c I’ve about figured out that I’m hopeless. I CANNOT keep things neat as I go, and I am single. I’ve read about “Messies” but I’m not doing too well. I need help, too!
Oh wow, I’m not the only one out there about this issue! I have a child but when I do get into a cleaning mode is when I have music going and he’s in school. But this only happens like once a month! Its so overwhelming makes it difficult to have friends over or for my son as well! Its not fair to him either! He is also following in my foot steps which makes me sad! & I know its my fault but I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried everything you have as well. Being 25 I should have some energy to keep up but I don’t, not one BIT! & I can’t blame it on him well a lot of mess is him but I mean the part on not being motivated in cleaning lol. I do love the idea of asking my mom over! I would never want my mom to see my home. Shes a very neat and tidy person. Don’t know where I got my ways from. Thanks for the tips even though it was a post for you Lol. Very helpful :D good luck to everyone.
i have a hard time even starting to clean cause im single homeowner who works secound shift. i always tell myself im going to do it during the day and then when i get home the thought slowly goes away. my house is messy especially the kitchen and living area what do i do.
I have 11 year old and 18 months old twins and my problem is I can only do it when the twins are asleep basically.
I struggle with a routine. I need to do a load of washing every morning otherwise it gets on top of me, and I end up using the drier and having baskets of folding to be done.
I have also been through cupboards and taken out anything we don’t use or haven’t used in a long time and sold it so there is less clutter!
I find its just keeping up with the everyday cleaning -washing up, washing, vacuuming & mopping floors, cleaning bathroom & toilet etc that gets me down.
Check out the website www.flylady.net They have a program that works, where you don’t get overwhelmed by having to do everything at once.
