health help: I wanna lose weight. - Help.com

I wanna lose weight.

What is a safe way of losing about 2 stone, and i want serious replies here people.
The basics of the story is i kinda over indulger over christmas, and put on 2 stone. I look like i do in the picture there, but i’ve put a little bit on around my stomach area.
I’m 6ft4 and 16stone which is considered overweight. I personally don’t see it, but i wanna get healthier for my own good.

Any advice people?

How many pounds do you weight (not stones)? If your avatar is your personal picture, I feel you look GREAT! (Very cute too!)
Either way, you will need to eat 500 calories less per day in order to really start seeing results. It takes 3500 to loose one pound of weight. If you eat 500 less calories a day every week, you should be loosing one pound a week (which is what is recommended so weight isnt lost too fast).

FYI: 1 stone = 14 lbs = 6.35 kg

Generally what is considered “safe” weight loss is about 1 to 2 lbs per week, or in your case, 0.143 stone –i think that’s a correct conversion.

And “IamMykidsmom” is correct, the most effective and safe way to lose is cutting calories, unless you are already eating the minimum requirements for weight maintenance. In that case, adding exercise (which you should do anyway) should be enough to lose weight. But most people eat more than they actually need to “maintain” weight so cutting calories is most effective. But DON’T cut out more than 500 kcal, you certainly don’t want to starve yourself to lose. Losing weight takes time, so be patient with it.

Good luck.

hmm i suggest this program called Diet Power to help you keep track of the calories, carbs, fat, and everything you eat. I’m currently using the 15 day trial, with excellent results. im not advertising, i just believe in passing on good products.

i’ve had trouble with weight since i can remember, i would stop eating, or eat too much, causing huge weight changes. i finally feel like im starting to have some control. it’s also good for your health to watch what youre eating.

If I was in your position, I would simply eat about the same amount, but exercise for about two hours a day. Go biking, or jogging, or unicycling, or cross-country skiing, or kayaking, or whatever your thing is, but do it for long periods of time. Something that builds cardiovascular endurance, though.

The problem i’m having at the moment is i don’t have enough time for excersise.
I am currently doing some really important exams at school, and all my free time is either at school, at work, or revision.
And, okay…this is gonna sound stupid. I consume way above my GDI of calories. 4000+ calories a day. But if i don’t eat that much, then i get really hungry and moody and irritable.
I’m liking the suggestions so far…!!!

Plus…eat really slow. That way your body has time to realize it’s full, so you can stop eating when it is.

Hi Kevin. I find eating 5 small meals a day helps me alot. I make sure the meals are protein with complex carbs. I’m in my final months of grad school & my final 3 courses are tough so I’m stressing big time right now & when I stress overload I tend to stress overeat so I’m working on not doing that. Condensed Matter Physics II and Neutron Scattering are killing me so I don’t have alot of free time cuz I also work fulltime as an engineer. I take half my lunch time and walk at least 20/25 minutes. It helps believe me. So good luck and hope you find the right diet plan for you.

Hey Kevink, how is it going with the weight loss? Have you lost any? I try to check back on posts I’ve responded to and stay in touch and see if progress has been made.
By the way, I saw your reply the other day on the post where hotsox42 and I were playing about the fancy bowling lane and what looked like a bra. Do you remember that? Yes, I agree with what you said about those things…lingerie..lol.
Let me know if you’ve lost any weight, ok?
