should i bother to pretty myself up?

i used to hate wareing anything but black t-shirts like you find in hottopic, and black sweatpants. but after 3 or 4 years of that i have gotten tired of it and have started to buy cooler stuff (well, not as cool as my anime or band t-shirts, but i mean like, fancier XD) and i even got eyeliner and mascara today! (i’m claiming its for prom and job interveiws, but really i just want to ware it, lolz) but… the whole reasen why i only wore the “black blah” before was because i don’t see any reasen why i should spend the extra time and money for beauty. and if you saw what i looked like you’d see why! you can put lipstick on a bulldog, but it still looks like a bulldog! XP so my question is.. why bother? why spend the time and money? i mean, anime shirts are expensive enough! x.x but… i like other stuff too.. like, i have this BEATIFUL blue zepbra stripe tank top with black lace and i love it! but, the thing is it looks good, but i don’t. if that makes sense… any sort of make up doesn’t help me either. even if i weren’t coverd in zits it wouldn’t matter. it makes no difference what so ever. and i know i shouldn’t care what other people think but i am very shy… so anything, anything at all that could make me feel a little less nervous around people (even people i know!) would be great. and i think it does help… but then i think ‘what difference does it make wheather i’m in a designer outfit or laundry day scrubs? my face still looks just as embarrasing’ so what made me alittle more confidnet a second ago just makes me more nervous because i know i look like some uncondient attention seeker. i don’t know what kind of an answer i’m serching for. but anything anyone can offer would be wonderful, thanks and God bless!

Well, dressing up feminine can make you feel a lot more confident. Looking good usually relates to feeling good. Go on a shopping spree, go to a salon, get a make over, have them do your hair, eyebrows, get your nails done, put on some make-up, work out. I don’t find myself to be the most attractive girl in the world, but when I get all dolled up like that I feel really pretty.

Dear Anonymous,
You are beautiful and you don’t need people telling you that. Everyone is beautiful and so are you i don’t need to look at your face to say that because people don’t care about how u look from the outside they care about YOU and your personality. If you want to wear fancy clothes wear em! Do what ever you feel good in. If your worried about what people are going to say, its just your fear don’t let it come in the way. If you want to wear that zebra top wear it! But remember i don’t think it matters if u wear black t-shirts or designer tops, it’s what YOU want not others. Just because you are shy doesn’t mean you cant dress up a bit too.

Haha, you sound so much like me…when I was 16.
I was so incredibly self concious, and so stuck on the wearing the same thing, because I hated the girls that primped themselves up - just to get attention, especially from the boys.

Now, 4 years later, I like wearing feminine clothes, like dresses and stuff - because I AM a girl…and it makes me feel nice, to always look nice, and to look like I care for myself.

BUT…that said, I never spend stacks of money on clothes…I like 2nd hand stuff, and I know that may seem grotty…but really, it is not. I get commented so much on my clothes its not funny ! And its even better when I say “Geez, thanks…it was $2″…

I think the idea is to find who you are. I have learnt that as much as I hate it, first impressions do count for alot. So, if you are always wearing the same clothes, people might develop ideas about you - as stupid as that is…

I just think you should wear what you feel like wearing, comfortable, cheap and cute.

For what its worth… =)

yes, i have treated myself to stuff like that. and its a lot of fun! but the problem is i know that no matter how much make up i have on or how great my hair looks or how hot my cloths are… i still look like me which is a really embarresing way to look. i hate to say that about something God created but… He wasn’t trying with me… lmao.

I got whistled at today! I didn’t think humans still did that.

I’d wear my PJs everywhere if I could.
I was actually thinking about that this morning; I was filling up petrol on the way to work and I went in to pay and the guy got all excited and friendly.
But when I go there looking like sh*t it’s usually just a dry “anything else?”
I find it annoying, but I mean I still like looking good.
I don’t wear too much makeup, just the natural sort of look. I think anything over done looks bad, and it also depends on the occasion. Mascara works wonders though.
Good clothes and a good hair cut that suits you change everything.
I’m obsessed with scarfs.

I don’t think I answered any of your post.
you shouldn’t do it for other people, you should do it for you; to feel better about yourself. a good make over always boost your self esteem.
You project the way you feel about yourself to other people, if you’re confident and comfortable in your own skin, that’s what people will see.

Keep in mind that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You may find yourself unattractive, but that does not mean that whole world does. I’ve met many people that claim they’re hideous, but I find them beautiful. There’s beauty in everyone if you look closely enough.

there’s a solution for everything, except death! i kind’a agree w/ you about being a bulldog and not being able to change it no matter what you wear. but, again there’s a solution. if you really have horrible acne, there’s meds you can get that will at least tone it down some. if you have scaring there’s creams/procedures etc you can do to lighten them a little. if you’re fat you can loose the weight, etc. i agree w/ everyone saying to do what feels good, as in wear what you want to wear and get make up if that’s who you are. it does help a lot, specially your self confidence no matter how you look. i’m working on myself as well. good luck!

How old are you if you don’t mind me asking??
I felt the same way about myself, and my sister thinks the same about herself now. She is younger than me.

Now I look back on photos of me when I was younger and I think, what was I so worried about?? I was just shy…I didn’t realise what I had.

Now I am a little older, and I am so much more comfortable in my own skin.
I go out wearing not much makeup, but always try to look like I havent just woken up…like I care…
Not that it matters what you look like, but I just feel so much better, I have more confidence in myself.

You should never think you aren’t beautiful. NEVER !!

oh come on! how’s anyone ever gonna like you if you can’t even like yourself.
I really doubt you’re as bad you think. It’s always worse in your head.
Try tea tree oil, that should help clear your skin up.
As I said, a good hair cut changes your whole face.

If you’re confident people won’t care what you look like.

I don’t think this is about looking pretty anymore.
I think it is deeper than that…

You need to believe you are beautiful. You said you believe in God didn’t you?
Well, God creates everything.
You are no different.
Trust me.
People are gifted in different ways.
Some people are incredibly beautiful to look at, but their personality is enough to make you want to vomit.
Some people aren’t as lucky, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I hate it when people compare themselves to others…
Be unique, be an individual…be yourself.

There is nothing wrong with you !
You are stuck with what you are given…so you may as well be happy, and be the best that you can be.

Have people put these ideas into your head, that your not pretty??
Because if it is other people, don’t listen to them.

Just be yourself, a free spririt. You don’t need the acceptance of anybody, and once people see how happy you are within yourself, they will want to be around you.

I’m an 18 year old girl. i don’t wear make up unless i’m going clubbing. I mainly wear jeans and tees to uni. I often don’t brush my hair in the morning. I don’t have flawless skin. Yet somehow i have so many wonderful friends from IT nerds, to the indie crowd to the devoted christian networks to the ‘popular’ party kids. However, i smile a lot, pay attention to what people are saying, i’m supposedly funny and most of all I don’t judge people beforehand. this is what i feel makes me beautiful. If changing your look a bit makes you feel good do it. If it doesn’t do it anyway. Its a good challenge because some day you’ll change your style why wait. its important to look approachable but you don’t have to go overboard and look like those skanky attention seeking girls. find the balance in dressing up that you feel comfortable with.

fashion is the way we express ourselves and how we feel. enough said.
