London help: Mother of the Bride Dress; plain & simple. - Help.com

Mother of the Bride Dress; plain & simple.

My daughter is getting married in 5 weeks. Because of her wedding theme I can only wear pink & or lilac. I dont like dresses with too much going on. I am looking for one plain colour & don’t mind the odd floral motif but definitely don’t want a busy print. Everything I see is clingy & shiney. I cannot find a dress anywhere & will end up going in my everyday clothes or not going. I hate shopping. It takes 24/7 & finding nothing is distressing. Before you say make one, I have arthritis of the thumbs & feet (I am almost 60). Need to try on so it will have to be in the UK, Sorry.

There’s a bridal website: www.theknot.com

Click on the Dresses tab, then go to “Dresses for Moms” There you can search dresses by style, cut and color. Once you narrow it down to a few, search to see if any of your local dress stores carry that particular dress. They site has tons to choose from and many popular brands so hopefully some department store in the UK might have it.

Best of Luck, and Congratulations!

Hmmmm, why not go shopping with your daughter, then?
I’m sure she may be able to help, if she’s not tooo busy, that is.
And, go to a local retailer, ask for help…
Shopping online works GREAT, too.

Here’s a UK Bridal Website, this will probably be better:

http://www.confetti.co.uk/

Again, go to Wedding Dresses Tab, then click on Mother’s Fashion

Lovely idea thanks. I spent 6 hours looking with her, found nothing. She lives & works far away

Alright. Have you considered having one made?

If you have a seamstress friend or coworker, perhaps they could help you.
I promise you it is possible to get a simple dress made.
Visit a fabrics store to pick out a print you like, and if you’ve found a seamstress, have him or her go with you to make sure the fabric will be good for what you’re trying to do.
Good luck.
