Tooth!

So, anybody know how to deal with a toothache besides going to the dentist and eating ibuprofen in large quantities?

A visit to the dentist costs quite a bit… and I don’t have that kind of money.

Drink ice water, take some shaved ice and put it in your mouth around the area that the toothache is; you get the idea.

Also, If you have mouthwash you could try rinsing with that, that works for me sometimes.

I think there’s like this gel stuff called “Anbesol”, or something like that. It numbs your mouth-hope this helps!

understandable, well, you could go to the ER and ask for an xray or something. but i suggest saving up the money to go to the dentist, or for dental insurance as much as it sucks to spend your money that way its necessary

I make just barely enough money to pay rent. X-ray costs the same as my water bill per month. (I have NO free medical help where I live). And dental insurance does not exist here.
lucylovesfwaggy, my fridge was been unplugged for a year already ) have no ice ) but it’s still pretty cold outside, so I can probably stick my head out the window.
kittykatluver10, googled Anbesol, they don’t sell that anesthetic where I live, sadly.

I’m looking for non money consuming methods to kill that pain. Found on the net that a solution of baking soda can help, tried that, helped a bit. Want more of these kinds of methods )

My god, that is depressing. Why dont you just get a friend to pull it out for you - get drunk first (on something really cheap).

You are looking for pain relief methods, not cures. The only cure is to go to the dentist. Cant your parents help? Or can you go to the dentist and pay it off?

Why dont you get off the internet and save up the money you were using on internet connection and downloads for the dentist? Why dont you have savings? You perhaps need to get a second job, or one that pays more. There really is no excuse for not being able to finance maintaining your health, because that is the most important thing you have.

hmm in english i dont know what it is called i doubt you have them anyway at ur country it is called “3ara2″ “aarae”, it is a drink when mixed with water become white it is transparent when alone… you put a little amont on a cotton and then you put on ur tooth that is hurting , it will act as a pain releaser, it will numb all the pain away… but not for too long… but enough to give you some rest from the pain :)

Serious answer.

I went to a dentist with a sore tooth and they offered to charge me hundreds of $ to dig it out. When I pointed out that I didn’t have that kind of money they said they could just shoot some mouth wash in there.

Depends of what the cause is, but a syringe (with no needle) shooting mouthwash into the sore but might get you rid of an infection.

I don’t drink because I can become addicted again… and if I would choose not to pay my internet bill, how then I will find work? My savings were spent partly on another visit to the dentist, had 1 molar and 1 of my wisdom teeth removed. Could have removed more teeth but couldn’t afford it. Wish I could get a second job, but there are no jobs here… half of the population is unemployed. My “job” is just relocating heavy objects for people who sill have some money left on them… 5 “working” hours a week maybe, and I’m lucky to have that “job”.

Some dentists will do toothaches and stuff pro bono (ie free), and claim it in tax, so you can see if anyone is willing to help

Can you move to somewhere where your quality of life will improve and you have better job options? It doesnt sound to me like your life is sustainable as a whole, and you maybe need to do something drastic to change it. I know this is off the topic, but if you cant work, you cant maintain your health and you cant even keep perishable food in your home, it seems to me that a huge change in your way of life is in order. Your tooth is just the catalyst.

My parents… we haven’t talked since I moved out. Oh, wow. That was awful of your parents to do that. Well, my only other suggestion is to start buying lotto tickets!! Or maybe you can hold off on the treatment of the cause and just work on the pain, like you asked about in the beginning. If you go to the UK, you will absolutely be able to get it fixed there.

I’ve tried mouthwash, everything numbed for a bit… but I think that a baking soda solution is better… and a with a hydrogenii peroxidum after. It just HAS to be an infection of some sort because that tooth was depupled and filled, but the filling fell out… and infections need antiseptics, which peroxidum is. And soda to reduce the acidic (or whatdoyoucallit properly) environment in the mouth.

nice. So wack the infection, then neutralise to stop the teeth being eaten by the acid. This a home recipe?

“Use clove oil.

Oil of clove has proven effective in anesthetizing a toothache. Use an over-the-counter preparation, *not* pure clove oil, which can damage nerves. Drop a small amount of the preparation directly onto the sore tooth, or dab some onto a cotton ball and place it over the tooth. A whole clove held against the tooth can also work.”

Gargle aspirin that may help.
If its an infection gargle salt water everyday for 5 days ish and that will clear it up
co-codamal can help but its addictive so be careful ( i speak from experiance no addictivness had major wisdom teeth pains and ibru/paracetamoal wouldnt work)

Salt water and clove oil, got it… and will try these.
Every time i have a toothache I start to compete with myself - how long will I be able to endure the pain and will I be able to suppress it entirely. Last time I lasted for a little more than 1 week, gave up partly because I couldn’t sleep for that week… and the pain was blinding ) 7 days of no sleep and you won’t need any LSDs or something, the mind becomes so so so distorted. )

I have the same issue. When my tooth starts to hurt I always gargles salt water. STRONG salt water. Don’t tongue it, it’ll make it worse.

Also, I didnt want to read all of these responses (so this may have been said), but after you get it all nice and cleaned out, and the toothache goes away, most drug stores sell a temporary filling. Buy some, its like $6 (I dont know where you live). It will keep it covered, and prevent any bacteria from getting in there.

It’s worked for me a millioon times.
Hope this helps =)

Our medicine is this - if you get sick you go to a doctor, the doctor will look at you and will send you to another doctor unless you give him a bribe. No bribe means no diagnosis and no prescription. And dentists are just expensive, mini clinics don’t deal with wisdom teeth and a government dental clinic cranks up the bill sky high… last time I went there, had 2 teeth removed, one wisdom tooth and the next one to it, paid them for that sh*t the amount of money I make a month… but rent ain’t going to pay itself.

Just googled, in america working at McDonald’s as a cashier you get 7.5$ an hour. Here you get 1$ - 1.5$ an hour for the same job. Pulling one wisdom tooth costs about 400$ here (with x-rays). So you have to work for about 400 hours to save enough money (bills, food, taxes, transport EXCLUDED)

Well, in different currency but yeah. That one dollar is also the cost of a loaf of bread here. And that’s if you have a permanent job somewhere… I’m self employed, move heavy stuff for money, furniture and a like. Pay is 20 times more but only a couple of working hours a week. Enough to pay bills but not enough to afford a dentist with bills. So that’s why I will have to take a f****ng loan… probably going to give them my fridge and my good TV to cover it.

Well, I know ) it’s already really really not safe to go out after dark unarmed. We have almost no police on the streets, the government terminated the only existing police academy almost 2 years ago.
Also a weird thing, if you get caught in public transport without a ticket by a controller then you’ll get beaten and “legally” mugged. For example the controller can take away your cellphone or your wallet. And the police will stand near and look the other way…

hey! is there any homeopathic treatment awailable there? because that is cheap to other treatment. You may use Hekla Lava for your teeth.

and yes put clove between your jaw and take its juice, i will give you comfort.

I hv got offed my wisdom tooth in 300 bugs only.

in your country it’s very costly.

Called the info service, from homeopathy we have acupuncture and skin healing with balms. Nothing else is certified here… (homeopathic stores still sell a lot of stuff, but for the most part it is bull****)

Tough man. So often it’s easy to offer advice and help, but you are way ahead of the game - you have the local knowledge and the brains and you are still feeling stuck.

Best of luck man. Not much, but just know that while it’s not like American sitcoms, there are placed with Medicare.

I use accupressure for instant relief. Pinch/rub the skin that is between the thumb and forefinger of the hand that is on the same side of the body as your toothache (works for me every time). It should help within minutes. If ice is available, rub that area with ice. I know you don’t have any…but maybe a neighbor or a friend can give you a few ice cubes? Studies show that it reduces the pain by about 50%.

Are you able to call a doctor to phone in a prescription for antibiotics? Most dentists won’t work on a tooth until the infection is cleared up. Once the infection is cleared, you will probably no longer have pain. Then you need to take steps to prevent any future infection. Usually there is no charge for a doctor to make the call. (But I don’t live in Latvia, so I don’t know.)

Are you able to order antibiotics over the internet? Even with an internet doctor prescribing the med, it would probably be more affordable for now.

I’m sorry you’re in pain, my friend. I hope you find some relief soon.

If you have hydrocodone, that works better than ibuprofen

Ok, pain subsided… clove oil (which tastes really bad) + salt + ibuprofen.
hydrocodone is a narcotic analgesic, only with prescription and you can get addicted.
kitten_ciao, what’s an internet doctor who can give proscriptions??? We don’t have that thing anywhere in eastern Europe…
