What types of facts should be used in a historical fiction paper?

The format of my paper is going to be a diary entry. I need 20 facts AT LEAST included in my paper. The topic is a soldier in the Vietnam War. He lived from 1951-2005. Thanks!

What types of facts should be used? Should I use facts about like how many soldiers died? How should I go about searching for the facts?
