I was wondering, if this is normal.

Right now I am in high school. My dream is to become a registered nurse (RN) and go on many mission trips around the world. I want to travel, I want to help others. I want to see everything, and explore to my heart’s content. The thing is, my heart is really set on this. It is to the point where I don’t really want to even get married until a lot later in life, so I will be able to live my dream of going on mission trips as a nurse. I figured it would be so much easier to get up and leave for a month on these trips without worrying about a husband or a kid. So I have come to a thought, is this actually normal of someone really wanting to do this?

Not “normal” in the sense that lots of people do it, but very commendable. Or rather, it may not be normal, it’s much better than normal. That’s kind of what Mother Theresa did, except without being an RN and she focussed more on getting food and clothing for children around the world… but still, I do hope you stick with it. Why be “normal” when you can be so much better?

Why care about being normal? If it makes you happy do it.

At least you have a plan, that is a good start. No need in rushing getting married or raising a family.

Hey, what’s normal? That is why people are different after all. If everyone wanted the same thing in life this world would be one boring place. Go for it! You are one brave person!

You go girl! You have your priorities straight. If your career is your priority there is nothing wrong with that. And not wanting to ruin a marriage or not be able to care for a child because you are wrapped up in your work is commendable. You have carefully weighed your options and know where your heart is. You are not only thinking of yourself here. You are making sure that you don’t hurt others with your plans.I know several of my family members who did just as you are thinking and are very happy with their choice. Life my change down the road for you, who knows. But If this is your goal then give it a shot. No one has a rule that says you must get married and have children. You be you and don’t worry what the rest of the world thinks. It’s not like you’re doing anything illegal.
