I can’t start up Half-Life! - Help.com

I can’t start up Half-Life!

I bought the game a while ago and I still havent completed it. I decided to have a go at it today, so I started it up. Except I couldn’t. I keep getting an error message:

“Fatal error: Failed to initialize authentication interface. Exiting…”

It’s strange because less than half an hour or so earlier, I was playing it, and apart from freezing up and closing (which it does every now and again) I didn’t have many problems. It just started goofing up. Any suggestions?

And yes, I have reinstalled it.

About the freezing up and closing, look for a solution online. I’ve had the same thing and it was since Half Life takes up tons of memory (and once you pass the limit, it crashes), so if the maximum allocatable memory is increased then it wouldn’t crash.

As for the current one… dunno, but maybe it’s due to the same memory thing? Only not enough memory to even start it up?

I’m not sure if this game is on your computer or a game console of come kind but if it’s on a game console have you tried different games to see if it is the console that’s messing up?

I’m not sure if this or work or not for you but it worked for me. What I did was go into settings and then the interface tab and then I changed the language (it doesn’t matter what other language you choose). I restarted steam and then went back into settings and interface and changed the language back to english and restarted steam again and then it worked. I’m not sure why this work but I don’t really care I’m just happy to get it working again. :)
