the fact that anyone likes twilight, let alone the fact that it’s a best seller, makes me want to kill myself.

Have you read the books? Or just seen the movies. Big difference. Movies always suck.
Listen to helpbot. There’s a nice, warm little corner in the asylum reserved for those who wish to kill themselves over stupidity’s endlessness.

It really never ends does it?
i don’t like twilight either. it drives me insane when my friends talk about it. but i guess everyone has their own tastes. to me a guy waiting in my room through my window would be more horror than romantic. but i can see why it pulls teenage (and some adult) women in. it’s the “irresistible” factor. like bella is irresistible to edward and noone else compares. they have marketed it very well. most women usually like aggressive men (most not all) and made to feel very special. they like the idea of a man who is obsessed with them, especially a good looking one, lol.
by the way i hope the killing yourself part is a joke cause if you do it will be as retarded as the females (or males?) who kill themselves over edward

Zeus’ beard, it’s Mobius’ strip all over again! ARGHHHHHHHHH!
I think you just gotta laugh it off, y’know? I read the first book, and my opinion is that it’s pretty terrible. But don’t get bent out of shape about what other people read.
Think of it this way: yeah, the Twilight books are popular, but aren’t there books that you like that are popular, too? Do you like Harry Potter or the Lord of the Rings? How about any popular SF or fantasy, like Dune or the Drizzt novels? Do you like Stephen King?
Also: books on serious topics that people “should” be caring about are popular, too. Like Friedman’s Hot, Flat, and Crowded or Hawking’s A Brief History of Time.
It doesn’t make me want to kill myself. Maybe Stephanie Meyer and her cult like following.

I’ve read the books and I still think that they degrade modern literature.
Not a big fan myself. First of all it breaks all the traditional legends about vampires. Since when can they go outside in the daytime after all? The biggest reason though is probably that I just don’t like romances. They are so sappy and unrealistic vs. how real relationships go. Makes my skin crawl.
But…not begrudging anyone their Twilight. My sister is a huge fan. We just have to agree to disagree on this particular subject. I’m sure some people like the whole romance themed movies/books b/c it’s a bit of an escape from real life, so it can go both ways. They are creative stories, though. Just not my favorite.
there will always be something that makes teens (or a bit older people) obsessed, backstreet boys, jonas brothers, now justin bieber and miley cyrus. earlier titanic & leonardo decaprio, it doesn’t mean world is going anywhere, it’s the same it always has been :) thats how media industry works. i think it’s not a big issue many other things going on in the world today which are more concerning.
That’s the human race for you. My Mum (married for 20 years) has a twilight poster in her bedroom.
However, killing yourself over this would mean Twilight has resulted in the death of someone, and I am sure you wouldn’t want to give it that satisfaction.
Just keep telling yourself - one day, it will be over. One day, it will be over.

Agree on both points here, romances are contrived and hackneyed. People have run out of ways to say “boy meets girl, they fall in love”. And the mythical version of both the vampire and werewolf have been destroyed in modern culture.

See, the problem with books like this is that when they become as popular as they have they tend to inspire more authors to write similar books, which soon leads to worse books and so on and so forth.

I never thought about that, but it’s true. If one decides to become an author, they should be able to come up with their own ideas. If it’s been done already, leave it be and write something new.
