I need serious and sane advise about SRRI’s, paroxetine and Seroxat.

it concerns my girlfriend, she’s seriously depressed, and she’s now’ve been supscribed 50gr to in 2 weeks 100 gr. under supervision of daily group therapy.
Waht are the dangers, benefits etc? And what is a sound alternative?

A couple of places to start reading up on it. The best course of action, if you are that concerned, is to go with her to a doctor’s visit, with her permission of course, and talk to the doctor about it. People on here are not doctors and cannot advise on what is right for you or anyone else. We are not qualified.

I don’t know those particular anti-depressants personally, but you can read up on them online. If you are young you have to be more careful in the first two weeks of taking SSRI’s because they can increase suicide risk for a bit, and generally they only start to kick in around 6 weeks of taking them. Everyone is different and everyone reacts differently to different meds, so it can sometimes be a case of finding meds that work for you. She sounds like she is being supervised carefully though, which is a good thing. One thing with anti-depressants is that it is important to not just stop them without informing your doctor, this can lead to withdrawal symptoms and increase the likelihood that the depression will return. It does often require that you take them for a bit even if you feel you don’t need them. Some side-effects can occur, and if they do just tell her to mention them to her doctor, it may just be that those ones don’t suit her.

i would imagine the dangers of not being on them if she is seriously depressed, outweigh any risk of being on them.
