Bus Intimacy, yes I’ve been riding the bus a lot as of this week.
Who says you can’t have sexless intimacy with an absolute stranger. I see it and experience it almost daily to and from on the crowded bus. Once I get a seat, feeling very priveleged, I often find myself squeezed snuggly between a variety of warm bodies. Some of these bodies, upon contact, stiffen up and stay tense throughout the ride. Others, like myself, take advantage of this secure position and relax. The best is sitting next to bigger person wearing a puffy coat. In those cases, I can wedge myself up under their arm and snuggle my way into a nice cat nap.
Nothing is more intimate than having your leg pressed against another’s for an extended period of time. Sometimes I sit for two or three stops until I realize the side of my knee is touching the person’s next to me. What’s more interesting is even after room is made and the legs can be moved, they often stay put. All of this unspoken quality time has got me wondering if people don’t somehow enjoy this opportunity to share body space with someone else. No normal person would ever admit that outloud, but sometimes, even the most loved, secure person may feel that added warmth on a cold day comforting.
