My daughter has been given an academic scholarship to study a year abroad at Mannheim University in Germany.

She will be gone an entire year studying German and International Relations. I am happy for her but she is my first to leave home and I am heartbroken thinking of her so far away.

:(

It must be hard to let her go. At least, in today’s day and age, there are webcams, texts, IM’s, etc, so you can be in touch instantly.

Congrats to her!!

My mom had such a hard time when I went off to college 2 1/2 hours away by plane. She got through it, though. Keeping busy should help, as well as finding support (online, perhaps) from other parents since most won’t understand your heartbreak as their children will be a 40 minute drive away. :-P And you have more in the nest! You’ll be okay. :-)
