I just started college.

I’m taking an algebra class, I have to pass this math and a higher math to get an AA degree and transfer. I want to go to law school. This is my fourth time taking algebra, I failed it two years in a row and then got a D in summer school. Honestly, I don’t understand it at all. I don’t understand any math. It’s impossible and I’m never going to get it, I’m already so lost even though I’ve been doing tutoring. My question is…IS THERE ANY WAY IN THE WORLD I CAN GET OUT OF THIS?! like, ANY WAY to avoid taking a math class and still get my degree?

Well why are you taking math?

I dunno how it works there but here you can take any undergrad you want to apply to law school and its about how well you do, not what you do.

You can try to petition the college board or Dean or something to bypass the math but I doubt that will work. I honestly think you aren’t trying hard enough in math…how often do you study your algebra?

Associate of Arts degree, if I recall correctly.

You should talk to an academic counselor about this. They’re very friendly, and this is their job. They’ll help you know exactly what you need to do.

I don’t really think there is a way to avoid taking math. I think it is a requirement because it is pretty much required in life and in almost all careers that you could possibly pursue. But you could try talking to you acadmic advisor and see what they say.

Hello,

Stumbled upon your question because I am dreading my algebra midterm and looking for a way out too. I have failed more times then I care to admit, and I still have to take two higher algebra levels (Intermediate & College) AFTER this one. Everything else is easy compared to math, but they require it for you to graduate and I’m not going to quit school. The more times I fail, the more semesters it takes me to graduate. If not for math I would have my degree by now. I still don’t see why I have to know algebra, everyone I talk to says they can’t remember how to do it anyway. It’s super frustrating! Best of luck to you dear, we just have to keep trying!

Law and math are more connected than you think because they both require similar logical reasoning. I would suggest reassessing your situation and your plans.
